    Mystery object

Pretty sure that I've seen something similar on WW2 military vehicle - have a vague image in my mind of US military truck with that sort of trafficator. Which might correspond with others' recollections of those diabolical vacuum-driven wipers on 1950s and earlier Fords. From what I remember...

    Mystery object

Pretty sure the trafficator thought is right. Have seen one on some vehicle, but can't at the moment place what it was.

Early Sash Window / Shutters RESEARCH

Wow; that is some window, Jacob! Brilliant work.

Early Sash Window / Shutters RESEARCH

Fascinating thread. My family came from the bit where Shropshire/Herefordshire and (the then) Radnorshire meet up and the original family farm had those sliding sash shutters sinking into the box below the window. The family subsequently moved into part of a Georgian rectory, with folding...

    Well done Weal-den

(Or maybe it should also be well done Royal Snail) Broke a cheapo 5mm router bit in some Siberian Larch yesterday afternoon about 3:30 on a job that is getting pressing. Swore, then rushed to computer and ordered from Wealden at about 4:0pm, assuming that was it till Monday. Out this morning...

    Inca 205 bandsaw - what's missing?

VERY, VERY long shot, but Bruce Pollard in Milton Keynes was the Inca agent many years ago. He sold up while we still lived there, but Pollard's ironmongers in Fenny Stratford are possibly still there and just MIGHT be able to give you a steer towards parts.

Protecting oil tank from falling trees

Really think you'd be best talking nicely to the farmer, even Welsh farmers can be reasonable (I can say that, coming from a Welsh farming family!). Especially if you offer to share costs or even pay entirely for removing the trees that might be a danger! No need to get all heavy and...

Colibri - Kinetic Sculpture - Parts

Now, if you'd wanted 3/4" threaded ones, I've got a Category 1 adjustable top link for a tractor which has one on each end and needs a good home.............. :D

    Bench drill

You beat me to it, Memzey :) Was just mentally working out where a floorstanding Star would fit in my workshop. But then, where would the cupboard on which the bench mounted one go................ hmmmmmmm........... not a goer after all!

    Workshop footwear?

Strongly advise you to get those heels looked at professionally. Son-in-law is a runner and has plantar fasciitis which he triedt o ignore and now looks like he may be facing surgery, with a not-too-good probability of a positive result.

    Another wood ID

Yes, will be doing that - I need another load of wood to keep us warm for the remainder of the winter. And, in passing, I've still got a lot of laburnum that came from the same source if anyone want some!

    Another wood ID

Pretty sure it's not hawthorn, for the reasons above and it doesn't look to me like hawthorn bark. Sycamore, or at least something in the Acer family, does sound plausible and it's almost the right bark, but I've never encountered sycamore that hard, or that dense. Will have to try serious...

    Another wood ID

Cutting up wood for the stove this afternoon and came across an interesting one. The whole piece was only about 30" long, 6 or 7" diameter. Bark looked like yew at first glance, so was thinking it might be interesting for turning, so went at it with chainsaw. Which was not happy; thought it...

Reaming out the bore of a circular saw blade

To be honest, I've done similar things to what Woodfarmer suggests, but it's potentially a bit dangerous, so be very careful doing it. Grandmothers, eggs and all that, but the file MUST have a handle and if it did catch, a file can easily snap and throw sharp bits around. Not saying don't do it...

Any circuit board/aerial experts about ?

Don't know much about these things, but might you be better using the Bluetooth connectivity to get a good audio feed from a "proper"FM receiver? And that way you'll also be future proof for when those thieving bar stewards turn off the FM signal so they can sell the waveband and force us to go DAB.

Coronet Major - morse taper stuck

But that can't work for MT fittings. Only useful against the register behind the nose thread.

    Bunnings

Nope! At least nothing in Inverurie last weekend; just the same stock as ever with a few sale items that noone would want!

    Startrite 352 Problem...

If the pulley is coming off the shaft when the machine is running, something is seriously out of line. Just a guess, but is the motor securely tightened down to the mounting plate? If it's loose, the belt tension coul just pull the pulleys out of line. The 352 is pretty much bomb proof!

So have they bought all of Homebase? No sign of any changes in the branches up here.

    Arboga drill refurb

Myfordman is your expert here - wait around and something might rub his lamp so that he will appear! Don't know much about motors, but might having a DC motor allow some speed control?
