Startrite 352 single phase band saw

If it's any help, here's a shot of the rating plate from the original 3p motor on my 352, plus a couple of general views. Can measure up the various sizes if you want.

Startrite 352 single phase band saw

Do you mean the actual single phase motor used by Startrite, or the 3-phase that you replaced? I did the same swap about the same time, but just used a 1hp motor that was lying around. In case it's any interest to anyone, the original 3p is still under the bench and needs a good home!

    Clean/Restore G Plan Brandon

Don't know that particular style, and was never a great fan of G-plan, but it's good to hear of someone appreciating furniture from that period. If it's structurally sound, it shouldn't need much doing to it apart from cleaning. The only downside of that period is that some pieces were spray...

Any Woodturning courses in East Lothian or Edinburgh area

Just a thought, but might it be worth trying one or more of the "Men's Sheds" that seem to be springing up around the place? Maybe find a few like-minded souls who could arrange something on a self-help basis. Miles away, but there are two or three active clubs up here beyond Aberdeen.

    Microwaving dry wood.

You can buy paints for painting on glass; SWMBO did some decorating of a glass soap dispenser and it's still in place after a lot of water. Don't know how it survives heating, but if the bowl doesn't get above 70C, it would probably be OK. Can ask boss what the paint was called if it would help.

    Wadkin PK blade pin missing?

.... and if it's in Wallace's stash, it will be polished up "like a new pin" :D

    A baton of wood?

It's not quite that bad down in Mainland Aberdeenshire, but still not brilliant. Though these days, I suspect that if you don't live south of a line from the Bristol Channel to the Wash, nowhere is that good, especially for hardwoods. At least we can get softwoods pretty easily in Buchan. But...

    Home made saw bench.

Thanks, guys, but unfortunately no help at all :( ! My Axy saw looks nothing like either of those. IIRC, it's called a MB150, or similar and it had a very crude table so it could be used as a vertical saw if you wanted to - I didn't. The problem is that the holes through the chassis that take...

    A baton of wood?

IS there any wood on Orkney? Can't see any trees!

Anyone know anything about Champion bandsaws?

Which way round is it? (Can't really see in the pic). For reasons noone seems to be able to give, butcher's saws seem to have their backbone on the right, wood saws on the left. And, yes, I do know about the Inca!

    Home made saw bench.

Slightly hijacking this thread, but my secondhand Axy bandsaw has the out of square problem too. Other than just remembering to tilt the material being cut so as to allow for the angle, has anyone found a more elegant and reliable solution?

    Lidl Track Saw

Hmmm - the boxes quite often seem to get damaged............. wonder if the pieces of track might fall out.................. ('twasn't me, yer honour)

Cost to convert to 3 phase

A near neighbour asked to have 3-phase installed to run his heat pump (I always said they were a nonsense!) and the supply company quoted something very cheap, which he accepted with alacrity. Only then did the suppliers apparently realise that the transformer directly across the road from his...

    Angle grinder blade????

For their design purpose, removing a lot of wood from irregular shapes in minimum time, they are actually pretty good. Like every power tool, you need to keep your wits about you, concentrate hard on what you are doing and wear protective clothing. Imagine it's just the tip of a chainsaw...

Just bought a Viceroy TDS6 short bed

Think you've got a bit of an alignment problem with that tailstock................ :D

    Wood face

He's looking like that because he's only just discovered that he's to be used for a (Br)exit door.

    Angle grinder blade????

Well............. hummmmm.......... suppose it's not THAT much worse than the Arbortech carving blade. But that scares the sh... you-know-what out of me on the odd occasions I've used it and it's only 4" diameter!

    Aberdeen Hardwoods

Thanks, guys. I had got confused over the name; as Droogs says, they are now Thornbridge but have "Aberdeen Timber Centre" on the side nearer St Machar Drive and I'd mixed them with Dave Piercey's AberdeenSHIRE Hardwoods. Went in today and had a look; they only have oak in small sections (up...

Skilsaw worm gear and Makita Hypoid saw

This is getting way off topic (!) but can't agree about the left-hand/right-hand motor thing. Have tried the 18V deWalt saws which seem to come in both flavours and the ones with the motor on the right just feel so.o.o.o awkward.
