Which is a Good Manual Mitre saw?

Don't know about the laws of physics (I'm just married to a retired physicist) but arguably, the apparently "flimsy" blade, because it is held under tension, is at least as accurate as the partially unsupported blade of a conventional backsaw.

Which is a Good Manual Mitre saw?

Not any more! Originally it may have been Marley DIY, then became Texas and then in about 2000, became Homebase, which is now in the throes of being Bunninged. That's capitalism for you!

    Another wreck

Checked the patent dates, and it's actually a bit earlier than we thought. According to the Timeline it's a type 9, where The Patent dates "Mar.-25-02" "Aug.-19-02" are cast into the bed, immediately behind the frog. So now I just need to source a contemporary lever cap, repair the rear...

    Sawstop News Update

And, of course, this technology will have to be made mandatory in th UK to be sure of securing that "great trade deal" that the Donald has promised.

    skirting question

Dissenting voice here - think I'd prefer it ending, with the moulding run round the corner as per Phil P.

    Another wreck

Thanks, Sploo. I had that page bookmarked somewhere on my system, but couldn't find it. Haven't checked the fine detail, but it's certainly consistent with that period. There's a bit of rosewood somewhere in the stash that could match the missing bit of the rear handle, but stuck for a lever...

Which is a Good Manual Mitre saw?

Surprised the OP's Nobex wasn't up to scratch. Had a small one bought from a clearance in Texas Homecare years ago that was fine within its limits and is still doing sterling work for Son-in-law. And the £3 Nobex professional from the local car boot is spot on.

    Carboot finds

Agreed about the condition, but can anyone explain to me the attraction of eggbeater drills? Probably just me, but I always found them a pain to use - impossible to get enough downward pressure and keep the drill exactly aligned. (ducks below the parapet again)

    Another wreck

Made a start taking off the worst of the rust/paint etc, and the basic plane is not that bad. My guess, without doing a proper detective job, is that it's early 20th century. Sadly, made two discoveries;- 1. I don't have a spare lever cap to fit, except for.............. 2. ..............The one...

    Another wreck

Yes. BUT............. you have to sift through several thousand pieces of carp to find anything you'd even think of buying. Basically, it's kids clothes/toys/cheap adult clothes/utterly tasteless ornaments for 99.9% of the time. A few cheap tools, mostly in the "handyman" category and just...

    Another wreck

Had a few minutes round the Thainstone car boot on Sunday, and spotted this sad relic of a Stanley No 6. "It was my grandfather's; he was really proud of his tools". Unlike his offspring, it seems! But it's quite an oldie, judging by the flat front knob and the small brass adjuster and for £3...

    Recommend a courier please!

Glad it worked for you, Gerry. Unfortunately, PF have rather blotted their copybook since my original post. Was waiting for delivery of saw track (Thanks PhilM, you went well beyond what was needed/expected on this) which PF promised for Wednesday. Stayed in all day, but nothing showed. Had...

    Elu Router

That's fascinating stuff. Interesting, though, that there doesn't seem to be any mention of using that threaded arbour in any of the (extensive!!) collection of Elu routing stuff that sits around our house. Nor do there appear to be any listings of the cutters that might be/have been available...

Building Your Own Kitchen Cabinets ?

+1 for Magnet. No connection other than as satisfied customer, but from my research, they offer B&Q prices or better and good, though not outstanding, quality. But their trade catalogue is a nightmare to cross reference with their ordering system.

Evolution of the Record 52 1/2 quick release vice

When I was young and foolish (50-ish years ago!) bought a Parkinson Perfect Vise from an auction in Morecambe. Didn't check it closely before bidding, then having parted with the princely sum of 25 shillings got it home and discovered it was the cast slide type and one of the slides was...

    Elu Router

Just in case it helps, here's a better image of the bit of the exploded diagram that shows what I think is that spigot, item 77. So then did the obvious thing and looked for the corresponding number somewhere in the manual. But, naturally, there isn't a key............... So not a lot further...

    Elu Router

Scanning some other stuff this morning, so dug out the original manual. Turns out I have two, one from the early 80s and one much newer. The early one has an exploded diagram slightly different from the parts list one linked above, and shows an item which looks to me like that short rod with a...

Thin boards for a garden arbour?

That's brilliant, and doing it from (in?) a wheelchair really shows up those of us with full mobility. Of course, if you lived up here near the coast, you could probably find the real thing and just hit it with a chainsaw - I've seen quite a few around. But not nearly as elegant.
