    TV sound question

Probably one for Eric the V., or another forum, but just in case anyone else has ideas, thought it worth posting. As the years go by, two things seem to be happening - my hearing is getting worse and the sound quality from TV sets also gets worse, possibly faster. Presumably with the intent...

    NiCd to LiPo upgrade?

In passing, it's interesting that the "intermediate" Li-ion batteries that fit the older style deWalt tools sell secondhand for a lot more than the new, slider ones. Fortunately, bought mine and necessary charger before this happened, so whole set of older DW stuff lives and works on!

    Lurem C2000

Do you mean a C2000? I didn't know there was such a model, but have a really ancient (and still fantastic) C200. If it's that model, I could scan the tatty pages of typescript, in French, that is the only instructions I've ever seen. But if it's actually a C2000, then sorry, can't help.

A bookcase on hinges - is it feasible?

Off-the-wall (!) suggestion - would pivoting the case in the middle, rather than down one edge, be acceptable/feasible. Would get over the problem of cantilevering nearly 1/4tonne off one edge.

    Bloody Parcelfarce strikes again

Not had many problems with deliveries up here, apart from the ludicrous surcharges that some seem to want to charge because at 60m a.s.l. we are "Highlands and Islands" in their strange geography. But Tuesday got email from DPD saying we would be notified of a delivery slot Wed morning. No...

A Dewalt service centre in the KT4 post code area?

Bit of a tangent, but has anyone any experience of emailing deWalt UK.? Reason for asking is that I need the reversing switch for an angle drill and can only buy it as part if the £70 complete assembly, even though they are entirely separate parts.

That's the one! What it is to have a functional memory!!

    Replacement banjo

Nice work on the banjo. Specially like the way you've brought the fixing handle out to the front; much easier to use than the original bristol handle under the bed. Any chance of some pics so we can see how you've done it?

    19th Century Welsh Lathe

Trying to remember the guy's name, but there was a piece in a 'Murrican magazine some 20+ years ago about a supplier of CI head and tailstocks and banjos specifically designed to be used with double wooden beam beds. Wonder if they are still available?

Cutting green oak sleepers with a bandsaw

If you've got a forest, then presumably you are going to be cutting a fair bit of timber over the years. A Forestor or similar portable band mill might therefore be a good investment - costs a lot up front, but will sell for sensible money afterwards. Or, if you can afford the wastage, Alaskan...

    Larch

Daughter has just had extension (nearly) completed which has vertical Siberian larch cladding. Work on the cladding started in February, so it had all the Scottish sun (sic) on it for the whole summer. No sign of splitting or any problems and it was double nailed with a Paslode. But then, we...

    Pitch Pine Flooring

There used to be a guy somewhere up in the wilds east of Lancaster who sold reclaimed pitch pine, mostly out of old mill buildings. ...... just remembered the name- Will Tyers. Don't suppose he's still doing it as it must have been a finite supply. I got four super pieces from Dave Prigmore's...

    Battening out under stairs.

The quoted size is pretty close to one of the standard kitchen cab door sizes. Local recycling centre or Gumtree?

    Pitch Pine Flooring

Had PP parquet in a couple of the rooms when I was a kid, but that's 65+ years ago. From memory, it was fine, with little maintenance, but if it did get damaged, the were lots of splinters. The figuring is quite aggressive, but nice if that's what you like. Lovely smell when you are working it...

    5 Pointed star. . .

Not really relevant, but had a colleague many years ago who, if he was on the phone or otherwise preoccupied, would draw five-pointed stars on any available surface for the whole time. You could always tell where he had been!

    Advice please: Kity 413

Why replace? Lignum vitae, or the commercial "Koolblox" or whatever they are called, do an excellent job. And don't gobble up cut depth. (I can only muster up one " Doctor")

    Have I seen the future???

Yes, I raised the issue of liability at the talk. One of the designs shown was a totally ludicrous "chair", looking like a cross between a hedgehog and Gaudi's cathedral design. Supposing that the original designer made these stupid things, sold them and someone hurt themselves when it...

    Need adaptor making

Just had a thought - given that an internal adaptor would be a very small piece of material, might it be something that a 3D printer would make with sufficient accuracy? See the thread I started in General Woodworking. Have a feeling that CHJ may already be doing something like this.

    Have I seen the future???

Just to depress you all - at the talk in Aberdeen, one guy showed us the most popular use of one of their smaller printers. Group of teenagers had been in making 3D "selfies". They have some sort of 3D scanner, which scanned the kids all round and then the scan was converted into a full...
