    Dust masks. Do you shave?

I have had a beard since my last year in the R.A.F., 1973, and I get around the problem with my JSP full face positive pressure jobbie. If the air is being blown out of said mask then the dust don't. get in does it.

    Tips & Tricks

I have had my Startrite 301S for about 25 yaars now and have had a light wired in like that for most of the time, but it isn't as good as that one looks. Mine is mounted on an old CB radio MagMount magnet and is on the door. It's a bug ger to move when I have to open the door, but it definitely...

    De Haviland Mosquitoes.

I too love your rendition of all of the aircraft you have made and especially the Mossie. It was a great shame that they didn't have the glues that we have today. They were a world beater until the heat and humidity of the far east got to those glues. When I was stationed in Singapore in the...

You may not know this handy tip.

I've used ratchet straps for as long as I can remember and I've never heard of anyone ratchet them by starting with the handle open? I always carry a pair in the car and they are rolled onto the closed ratchet and secured with a rubber loop cut from a tyre inner tube. That's the best elastic...

    Small pot from found wood

That was a lesson I learned about 24 years back, just after I has started turning. I had joined a turners club locally when we lived in Stroud. I only went to one meeting after joining and took what I thought was a lovely spalted goblet and put it on the bring and comment table. One of the...

    Who else thinks this?

I record all of the football games, along with all of the soaps. Lovely stuff. That way I can play them back when we go out and miss them twice! 22 over paid pre-madonas racing round a pitch and then begging the 1/2 wit crown who have paid megabucks to watch to worshop them for what they are...

    Small pot from found wood

It looks like spalted beech. When you are turning any spalted wood you reall must wear a good dust mask as the spalting is fungus breaking the wood down. When you turn it the spores are released and are definitely not good for you! I love turning it. I love it because you never know what the...

Pads for chair legs on wooden floors.

Why not lift the chair when you want to move it? Or is that being too logical?

    P38J Lightnings

Dihedral? Why would you need that on a model wot's got ailerons . They do a good job of stopping it twiddling around just like wot they do on the full size jobbie. Gyros? Well some have them, but the also have all sorts of things that talk to them and buttons that will fly the model back...

    Plane Tree

Hi Peter, I used to live in France, down near the Canal du Midi and Carcassonne and as you probably know there are/were quite a lot of platan (French plane) down there along the canal. Not now though thanks, apparently, to the tree surgeons who bought the canker down from the North? This was...

    P38J Lightnings

It certainly is AES. Dropping torpedoes must have been one of the worst jobs going. Having to fly at a set speed, height and straight for so long straight at the guns of the boats you wanted to dent! Kityhawk, I am really impressed at your skills with the modeling mate! I am still working my...

    Model glider mini minimoa

By the looks of this they don't 'fill' the blade with balsa and the spar is a laminate of resin and balsa. MikeJ, slabs now laid and grouted and out terrace don't arf look posh now. Locally sourced slabs too, from India   Well, at least they're local now, just outside our...

    Model glider mini minimoa

I haven't seen balsa for at least 10 minutes now My part finished 1/4 scale, 3.4m DFS Habicht. It was designed and built for the display at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the wooden spar was such that it was rated at +12g, minus 9g and was the worlds first fully aerobatic glider. I hate to...
