I do like inside out vases

I have grown to like inside out turning and decided to try to do something for the lady who has everything, or thinks she does? This is oak with a black walnut base. The glue for the base is drying at the moment and then all it needs is a coat of hard wax oil and a polish and then it's ready for...

If you have fibre glass insulation in your roof then that mask will be one of the best things you have. That dust is NOT friendly #-o

Dust mask - spectacle wearers advice please

I have had a beard since 1973 and although I only started turning about 24 years back I have a JSP full face pos pressure mask and it is great over my hairy face and glasses. I also have a Trend 1/2 mask for times when the eye protection isn't needed. If I am using that and my glasses start...

    Roughing gouge for bowls

My take on this goes along with everyone else and if that video doesn't show enough then just have an ambulance on standby when you try it  But seriously, you can put whatever shape you wish on a spindle roughing gouge, but NEVER use it unless you are turning spindles. Plus, the...

    My latest swop.

Thank you Robo. The wood is quite dry and, to my surprise, soft too, but it takes quite a nice finish. If anyone is a bit squeeeeeeemish then don't do a search on "mumping"! I did and couldn't find a correct (IMHO) definition of it for my Swa/op (lets cover all angles here folks  )

    My latest swop.

The first bit of the swa/op has born fruit with 2 inside out candle sticks. The one on the left still has work to do on it. Thw right hand jobbie is finished with Fiddes hard wax oil and polished with Chestnut chrystaline wax. I chucked a captive ring on them too.

    Yorkshire grit?

I have been reading about Yorkshire grit for sanding on the lathe. Anyone used it and if so what's it like?

Darkening a solid light oak TV stand

As far as I know there is no finish under the wax. That was of the main points for me. As far as darker, it would need to be by increment. Or bit by bit :? if you know what I mean, until the Boss is satisfied with it.

Darkening a solid light oak TV stand

It's not very often that I get to look inti this bit, but I have been given a task by SWMBO. We have just bought a nice low light oak haunted fish tank unit (TV stand to some) and SWMBO would like it darker than it is. It is hand waxed, with what type of wax is an unknown. Has anyone any ideas...

Recommendation for power sanding inside deep bowls

He's the man Robbo and very helpful too. He sent a fair amount of styff over to me when I lived in France and was ready to supply answers to all of my questions too. He assured me that I could use the Rhynogrip abrasives on mt Carrol sander drums as I was unsure and I haven't looked back.

Recommendation for power sanding inside deep bowls

I use these https://www.axminster.co.uk/flexipads-s ... s-ax835839 and I have a load of Rhynogrip abrasives and I normally cut my own disks. But if I'm feeling lazy then I have some 2" diskd too. It just took me a few minutes to get the hang of the foot control and then you can match the speed...

    My latest swop.

I went in to see a guy in a local joiner/cabinet makers on Wednesday to see what off cuts they had. They had had some very nice black walnut in a couple of weeks back and I wondered?? Well, they had some of the off cuts from that little lot and I got some of it. I didn't get it for nowt though...

Recommendation for power sanding inside deep bowls

The biggest difference is the noise, that drive is almost silent, and the foot control. I tried a flex drive on my drill and that's why I have the heavy duty flex drive. Also, if you are in to carving there is a carving head that replaces the spinny one. You pays yer money etc.
