The 'blade' arrived amazingly well packaged.... managed to get down the shed at the weekend, found a bit of scrap purple-heart to make a handle with (hammer) and hey-presto here's mine.... and if there was any doubt.... as you can see, its been 'endorsed' by Starrett...

i'm not knocking Mr Woody but.... even cheaper than cheap pen kits (or the ones that are coming with your mandrel) is to just spin up/turn a piece of the wood you're looking to make the pen with and apply some of the intended finish and see if its the look you're after... just a thought...

I bought a 'bunch' of different blanks last Xmas and only just getting round to trying them. I agree, the gold accents are a bit OTT.... almost (dare i say) naff.... but to be honest the combination of kit and this blank does make it look the dogs doodahs in the 'flesh' (mustn't be too harsh...

Peggy.... +1 for the Turners Retreat Crystal coat, and the wax sticks too.... I bought a bottle 3 years back, have made i cant remember how many pens, and still have half a bottle left, so i can confirm it lasts a very long time, and the finish lasts a very long time too, or at least no-ones...
