    Buffing wheels

Once again, this isn't going to be a terribly objective view... It's always easy to buy or do something cheaper similar elsewhere and the Buffing Kit is no exception. Firstly, as you'll probably know, the Beall system comes from the States and shipping costs and duty etc. will weight the price...

    Buffing Systems

Of course, I can't be truly objective about the relative merits of the two systems. There are several users of our system on the forum, perhaps they might like to give their opinions? The Beall System is very good and has many deserved fans. Our system differs firstly by being made/assembled...

    Baby rattle -what finish ?

That's in interesting one Chas; technically it shouldn't work, but it does. I've done it for years and others have done it for even longer with no problems at all.

    Baby rattle -what finish ?

Hi Rob I'm glad you found my answer helpful, I've been giving this some thought since my earlier post... I think I'd opt for one of our 'softer' finishes for a rattle, such as Shellac Sanding Sealer and WoodWax 22 or Hard Wax Oil or Finishing Oil. My reasoning is that these finishes are...

    Baby rattle -what finish ?

So many babies being born! Congratulations to all concerned! To be regarded as toy/child safe (the phrases are pretty much interchangeable) a coating has to comply with part 3 of the EN-71 regulation. You can read more about the test here. We have had many of our products independently tested...

    European Woodworking show

But Dave, that makes you the perfect stand-in as you won't be able to leave the stand at all (although we could provide a chair so you would be a sit-in). Seriously, sorry to hear that, hope you make a fast recovery!

Oh No! I've messed up my Chestnut Buffing Wheel!!

They've always been available as a special order but the packaging and everything else is sorted out now and they will be a stock item available for shops around the middle of October. So far no-one has worn one out!

Ah, so that's where I am! Look forward to seeing some of you there

Oh No! I've messed up my Chestnut Buffing Wheel!!

Oh no! (Although I did something very similar in my early days of experimenting with buffing wheels, you're not alone as other answers show). I don't think washing it is viable sadly, trimming it as per John's suggestion does seem the best option, but do be sure to wear a mask. Sorry I can't...

    Yandles Show

It's probably best to sort out accommodation before travelling, it gets very busy in the area if you're looking for something 'affordable'. The Fleur-de-Lys in Stoke-Sub-Hamdon is very local and has pretty good rooms. I haven't stayed there for years but have eaten there in the evenings...

    Chestnut buffing, first impression!

Hi Steve Have you had chance to use the Buffing System again? Important tips are to make sure that the finish you're buffing is dry (and buffable!), and use the white compound very sparingly, the wax stick even more sparingly. Preparation is of course very important too, so getting a good...

Very long shot - Renault Megane Cabriolet interior light ?

Hi Folks Mandy has given the part in question to her brother to see if he could solder it back on so I can't get a picture of it at the moment. Thanks Bob; this light seems to be unique to this particular Renault, annoyingly enough, so sadly a different model won't do the job. Just our luck...

Very long shot - Renault Megane Cabriolet interior light ?

I'll try and sort something out for that over the weekend maltrout512 when I have access to the car. Bugbear, I think the headlights are accessible on this model but not on the later ones. This isn't restricted to Renault though, I've heard of other cars with similar 'features'.

Very long shot - Renault Megane Cabriolet interior light ?

Hi This is a long shot, but you never know... Mandy has an 03 Renault Megane Cabriolet, the soft top version. The interior light has stopped working and after removing the light cover (which is also the switch mechanism) we've found an odd little bit of metal in the cover. It's broken off from...

A load of bulls, as on the 6pm news.

But it's not news about the BBC... it could have been called Sony Radio because that's what you were listening to it on... :)

Just wondering why this topic is entitled BBC?

Buffing system all systems are GO!!!

Hi Steve I'm sorry to hear your experience with the kit didn't match your expectation. Until now, feedback on the system has been universally positive, hopefully we can restore that... Thanks tekno.mage for your comments, all of which I'd agree with. To add a bit more, some of which might be...

VAT...the biggest ripoff in this county

Most of the points here have been covered and, from my understanding and compliance with VAT rules, the correct points have prevailed. One small point to consider about companies who are non-VAT registered claiming that this makes their products cheaper... A Non-VAT company buys materials and...

    advice needed

Depends what you mean by hard-wearing... I'd suggest using a sealer first, Shellac Sanding Sealer would be the one I'd normally say for this type of project, followed by a coat or two of wax, as this is your preferred method. The wax will withstand lots of knocks and bumps; if anything is hard...

What is "pre-stain conditioner" called in the UK?

That was pretty much my guess - the porosity of some timbers will vary from area to area in the same piece, which will lead to a blotchy effect when staining them; porous areas will soak up more stain and look darker, less porous areas won't and will appear lighter. Normal advice is, as stated...
