    Tool holder

If you made it on the xcarve, have you got the crv file for it? I guess you used vcarve and not easel.

    Chisels

Have found exactly the same thing via our local Freecycle group. When moving house this year we downsized considerably and the amount of people who said me, me, me and then didn’t bother to turn up to collect freebies was so frustrating. With out latest clear out from sorting a quarter of what...

    What could it be worth?

Nice restoration job on that. I like it.

    Gorilla glue

For gorilla glue I keep the bottle upside down. Never have a problem of the glue going off. It’s always liquid at the nozzle when you open it.

A question of construction and materials.

sounds a very exciting project. Save yourself a whole lot of heartache for later by doing things wrong on a build like this, by employing a professional architect right from the get go. They will be conversant with local bylaws and what local authorities deem acceptable. They could save more...

New Workshop - Roof Now On

Doing all the work, mine has come in fully costed at a tad now over £8500. A bargain as the quoted price to have it built for me was in excess of £20000.

    Air nail guns

Agree, I only wanted air powered and was left between the Bostitch and Mikita. I just dropped Mikita side of the fence.

Planer/Jointer vs Thicknesser, which one should I buy first?

If you are intending to make end grain boards to start with, I’d get the thicknesser. You can hand plane the sides as you are planing along the grain. The thicknesser, especially with a spiral block cutter, will take better care of the end grain surface than you can hand plane.

    Air nail guns

I’ve recently bought the Mikita AF506 18g air nailer, with variable strike force it has been a perfect tool building my drawer system and now finding many othe uses making the french cleat system. Best quality one I’ve ever owned, hopefully the last.

New Workshop - Roof Now On

Same here, 300+ was 300+ too many. 🙁 yep, it’s about knowing when to farm out certain jobs (assuming the labour is available).

    Condensation....I never knew you

In my last workshop which was poorly insulated and always felt damp in winter, I’d cover the whole of my Jet 3520 lathe and cast iron table of the band saw and sander with flannelette bed sheet, I spray the beds with GT85 and drape the sheeet over. I’m curious now to see if condensation on the...

New Workshop - Roof Now On

it’s great isn’t it? I still smile every time I walk in to do any sort of job. I’m really fortunate I know, but this is the best workspace I’ve ever created. I was meant to get ‘people in’ they just wouldn’t come due the the first lockdown. I’d have loved to have cheated, but I’m really glad I...

    Advice for restoration project please.

Damn fine job. Making a spindle is one thing, replicating one is an entirely different task. You should be proud of that. When you get the chair back, you can always remount to the lathe to finalise the tenons, you’ll never sand them true round freehand.

Also going to enjoy this build. What sort of dimensions are you working to here, it’s difficult to judge from the pics.

    Dust extractor automation/remote power on.

I’ll take some pics this week. It’s now fully working, is a superb setup. Micro switches are attached to the rear of the blast gates with super glue, clamped with a spring clamp whilst drying, which are activated by the lifting L part of the gate acting on the roller arm. The switches are daisy...

Workshop - block or wood ? humidity worries..

I'm agreeing with DBT85, as we live in a cold wet climate, build with a base, plinth and wood structure, and insulate it. The wall thickness will be much the same. His calculation is perfect to show you are clear of building regs as there is still the thickness of OSB to take account of. So you...

    Cheap Remote Controlled Dust Extraction

Excellent, thanks. I think there may be a place for this in phase two of my systems implementation.

    Dust extractor automation/remote power on.

Links to all components in the first post. It may not be obvious, but click on the red writing for each component description and it will take you to source. you can do a hybrid setup, manually switch on with as many switches as you like positioned where you want without actually linking them...

    Where to buy...

The inlet to my Jet fan unit is 6”, the cyclone is the Axi 4” one. I made a 6” to 4” adaptor and joined the two together, if your ducting is going to be 4”, it doesnt matter when you reduce it.
