    Log burner flue issue

I'm fairly certain that a log burner will need to be permanently installed with a proper flue going through the roof/wall. I have an insulated flue going through our house and I can hear loud outside noises echoing down it so there may well be a sound isolation issue for you. However, it's a bit...

    Mice and plastic pipes.

Is it speedfit? I'm sure their guidance notes stated that it should be installed in conduit if there's any chance of coming into contact with rodents. Could cover with pipe insulation as a sacrificial mouse snack?

    Sealing up a garage door

I converted my double garage, in one door I fitted a pvcu french door, I ended up buying new as the height was a little lower that most of the used ones available and I got fed up waiting. In the other door I got a window from the same company but it was a mis measure so it was half price. I...

    Lathe cleanup advice

I'm sure they're sealed bearings so agree with @Dalboy replacement is the way to go although if funds are tight just run it for a while, they may well free up but check they're not getting hot. edit. Recordpower - Woodworking tools

    Makita collets.

Are you making very small signs to warrant the use of small 1/8 CNC bits? I've always used a standard V or U shaped cutter, varying the depth of cut to give the required letter width. Here's a house sign I free handed using the same trim router with a 1/4 Vee bit. The Vee bits cam from...

    Hi there,

Welcome. I think we should have a new rule that makes users explain their username. Some perhaps are perhaps obvious @baldkev (or is it an aspiration :ROFLMAO:) but others are more intriguing... Anyway enjoy the banter.

Not sure if there’s anything to be learnt from this Aluminium Model Truck build, not watched it myself.

    Evolution Rage5s sawbench...which one?

If you go to the further info and then download the manual for each one you can see the differences in the spec. Ones a Rage 5 the other isn't. Not used either.

Drainage - Plastic to Clay pipe

It's more important to make sure the drainage flows cleanly and in the right direction than sealing it. It's worth putting shingle round the joint, allows for a bit for movement and will still drain even it it becomes uncoupled.

Is it definitely the spindle below the hole in the plate, just looks like it isn’t on the video

    Re-facing Startrite 301 Blade guides

I would try by hand first on a flat plate with 80 grit, I suspect it won’t take long to improve. If you can setup guides to hold them perfectly square against a sanding disk then would be worth a go but from my experience its not easy to make something perfectly flat on a disk.

    Axminster price increases

As @ian33a says we live in market driven economy and you're free to buy from whoever you like at a price you can afford. No one likes to see prices going up but they are and we have to accept that by either, not buying what's on offer, buying from a different supplier who you think offers...

    Lathe cleanup advice

The tubular bars need to be as smooth as possible otherwise the banjo and tail stock will be a pain to move, my blue variant CL3 bars are still nicely chromed and I still have to wax them to get the banjo to move smoothly. I'd try to spin the bars and then use different grades of paper until...

Run 3 phase table saw on 1 phase domestic supply using VFD?

VFD is the way to go if the motor can be Delta wired, I would recommend a good branded model as well. I've just fitted a RS-Pro own brand as it was good value on a 3 phase drill and have been pleased with it. RS is a good supplier and only sells good certified products. I understand that Teco...

    What are these ?

Searching google I found this referred to as a brass cleaning rod, but no mention for cleaning what. However, they were on a site that specialised in vintage guns so looks like @Inspector is spot on

    New member Introduction

Welcome Simon, I hope you enjoy your retirement. I retired nearly 3 years ago now and have never once regretted it. Personally I think cupboards are useful, mainly because they keep things dust free, but tools that you use regularly are better off mounted on the wall. The only way I can stop my...

    Control extraction via saw’s VFD?

It depends on the VFD, the one I use does have an internal relay that can be programmed to close on one of 15 or so conditions so it would do this, do you have a full manual for your VFD?
