    Plane id

Looks user made/finished to me . Rear handle has a nice look to it . The iron assembly is possibly a manufactured product, it looks parallel from the picture. It's going to take a bit of inventive dabbling to get the lever cap to where it should be. It's got potential but not at £95 Cheers, Andy

Portable gas fires and bottled gas.

I would not have thought so as it would leave them with Calor property they couldn't legally dispose of. Cheers, Andy

    How would you fix this?

Cheaper to buy another door if you are paying trade to fix it. The way I do it on the 35mm hollow core doors is to insert FROM THE EDGE a block of mdf Remove everything. Very carefully cut away the material behind the whole latch recess. Fashion a MDF block to fit snugly through hole and...

Griffiths of Norwich - Anyone heard of them?

I've got a fair few Griffiths but unfortunately all from different owners. There's a great write up on Griffiths in this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Norwich-Tool-Makers-Dealers/dp/B00B1UB3EA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1683475215&refinements=p_27%3AMichael+Shingfield&s=books&sr=1-1 Cheers, Andy

Installing wall cupboard over electrical conduit

Sometimes the backs of wall cupboards are best left alone. If this is plastic trunking why would you not pop the cover, move the cable to one side, trim it suitably and then have the cable in the void (assuming there is one) ? Nice tidy job with full strength of cabinet retained. EDIT, JUST...

    Rawlplug hollow wall plug issue

Perhaps you can move it towards the centre of the wall say 70mm to possibly pick up on any brick/blockwork? Is the gate is designed to open into the gap under the worktop? Are you positive this is hollow as I can see no paper from the plasterboard ? Cheers, Andy

    Rawlplug hollow wall plug issue

Looks like an outside wall with possibly dot and dab. Too close to the edge for most fixings except screwing directly into a stud wall. Cheers, Andy

Pattern makers radius plane, professionally made?

Just to bring this up to date I have recently visited a friends collection and he has exactly the same unmarked plane. This now makes me feel that most likely there was an Infill Planemaker actually making these at some point. Be nice to find a name. More information on my feed here ...

Plane identification (plus special bonus item).

Most definitely a useful tool... Most of the examples I own and have seen are with parallel irons. Beech is often the material of choice. I had the most amazing luck to find a very nice example which has since been confirmed as not the only one. Thread 'Pattern makers radius plane...

Plane identification (plus special bonus item).

As Adam says this has all the hallmarks of a pattern makers plane but there is an anomaly in so far as the set up presented here is with a straight ground double iron as opposed to multiple radiussed single irons and matching soles. I would be surprised if the rest of the irons were double as...

Very faint print on book, Christopher Gabriel and the Tool Trade in 18th Century London 1770-1809

This is a most excellent publication. My copy is okay so sounds like something has slipped in quality control. Where did you purchase it from and what did they say ? Cheers, Andy
