    Charnwood w721 or record bs250

Even smaller machines can work well as long as you have a good blade (Tuffsaw) and don't rush. Are there any particular thicknesses of timber that you need to cut? Even the neck of the guitar should not pose a problem if you move at an appropriate speed. Problems are often caused by pushing the...

    Charnwood w721 or record bs250

The Record BS250 is a better buy in my opinion. It also has the backing of a 5 year guarantee and if you buy when a sale or tool show is running, like Yandles this week, you could also get a discount and delivery. Malcolm

    Bandsaw advice

When you have obtaind enough information and are sure of your needs, take yourself to a professional firm like Axminster. They have a variety of equipment and you can then explain what is wanted and ask for their guidance. If you have time, the DVD's by Steve Maskery should be studied before...

    Elvis

bobman, all I can say is, 'The King' would be proud of that. Very nice work. Another great fan and such a shame he wasn't looked after rather than 'milked'.

    ...........

That's great news Brian. It's wonderful when you know how to make any machine work well and it just takes time to study what is required and spend the time putting it into practice. Anyone new to bandsaws would be wise to buy the Steve Maskery DVD's as there is so much in them and not just...

    Mid-range bandsaw

Hi woof, I only have knowledge of the Record BS400, which I bought new a couple of years ago. It is a superb machine and gets regular use witj a variety of blades, all made by Ian Black at Tuffsaw, as they are the best in my opinion. I looked at several bandsaws when buying new and decided on...

    Detailed saw

I agree with marcros, a bandsaw should do that easily for you without difficulty. Are you perhaps having problems setting up the bandsaw or scrollsaw accuratley? I am often cutting small pieces like that. Malcolm

    Tending the Flock

Progress today dealing with the flocking of these 5 new boxes. Two will be red and the other three with black. I will also need to add the felt feet and then ready to add to the Etsy site. Very pleased with the Tru-Oil finishes on these and just taken delivery of more supplies to 'keep the...

    Sourcing Bandsaw Blade Stone

Yes, I use an old oil stone, but a small file will also work. It's only to round the back edges to help the turns. What size blade are yiu using and is it Tuffsaw?

    Good alternatives to Tuffsaws?

If you require the very best quality, stay with Tuffsaw. Just give a call and problams are usually solved quickly. I do feel that you will be dissapointed in trying anyone else. Just one question, have you called him about the problems? Malcolm

    .........

That's one of the best I've seen Brian. Your choice of woods is better than some where the chest/kneck is far too dark. Well done again. Malcolm

Aligning The Bandsaw Blade Central To The Table Slot

Hi Peter, What you have in the photo looks quite OK to me and as long as the blade is verticle 90 degrees both sideways and front to back, then it will not matter if it is running a smidgen off centre of the slot. As you may already know, getting the blade in the right position on the top...

    Luthier Gary Hallam

THanks iNewbie, the WCS looks like the way forward as Luthiertools dont seem to want to do business, or have gone bust or something. Will probably go that way even though the prices are slightly higher (£38). Malcolm PS Just ordered from WCS, so thanks to all for info. Malcolm

    Luthier Gary Hallam

Thanks custard., I have seen that one and although I've not handled it, the base seems rather 'deep' in comparison and I read a review which indicated it was not easy to view the work, as with others, when in operation. Stew-Mac are good but there doesn't seem to be any UK outlets ...

    Luthier Gary Hallam

Does anyone know if Gary is still in business? I have tried to order from his web site but it will not connect. I have e-mailed and sent a tweet, but no response. I am trying to buy one of his Dremel Router bases similar to the Stew-Mac one which is sold by him. Any help would be appreciated...
