    How Much Does Woodworking Cost?

As woodwork is a hobby for myself, I tend to buy what I 'think' I will need, but probably buy more than I need in terms of better equipment than I could manage with. Working within half of out double garage for my 'workshop', I can still fit my own car in there when needed with machines...

    Fencing/Trellis Demolition

Thanks SteveF. I am awaiting additional quotes but the local sawmills are the most expensive at £745 plus vat. I am looking to match the present timber main framework which was put up about 25 plus years ago, planed 4x3 = 95mm x 770mm finished. pollys13, that's ideal but for someone a little...

    Fencing/Trellis Demolition

Sorted out the sabresaw and went for the De-Walt model as it has 4 blade positions, which could be useful. Apart from a few shorter bits, I have decided to get someone in to put in 7-8 new posts. I can cut out the old ones and re-position the new posts to fit. The price of timber has surprised...

    Dust collector for disc sander

Dust can be a real pig, particularly with disc sanders. I have combined my belt/disc sander and my Spindle sander in one wheelable unit. The unit has one vac for the disc/belt unit and serves well when only the belt is used. When I use the disc as well, that vac only works partially as a lot of...

    Computer Service Concerns

Maybe the next Change, if there is time, will be to a MAC. Certainly don't want Windows 10 and constant charges, but not sure if Mac have charges for updates?

    Computer Service Concerns

Hi Bob, I have already changed a few important passwords and will be insisting on new W7Ultimate disk to register, although I'm not sure it can now be registered if it's not the latest Windows. Just that I don't want Windows 10. I will ask anyway. A new portable 1TB disk is required plus the...

    Computer Service Concerns

Hi Duncan, his comment was he thought he may have put the disk and drive on the car roof whilst loading the pic. However, he took the pic and W7 disk out to his car and I followed up with my portable hard drive so he could use the backup when new hard drive fitted. Sounds a very silly thing to...

    Computer Service Concerns

There is no question or assumption that he is a thief. He has simply lost them according to him. I will certainly ensure that he accepts responsibility for any further damages or loss relating to the lost items falling into the wrong hands. Will see what happens next week.

    Computer Service Concerns

As he can't return the originals, at least he needs to replace the originals. Main concern is what may happen with information on my backup regarding banks, investments, personal details passport and card details Etsy etc. He will need to agree to compensate me should there be ant repercussions...

    Computer Service Concerns

I hope nobody has had this problem, but I am very concerned with a computer company that has done work for me before. Having had a problem with my Windows7 PC, I called my computer guy to explain. He thought it may be the hard drive, so came out to have a look. Then said he would check it out...

    Bandsaw box blades.

Hi Adrian, I used the 1/4" and 3/16" blades when I started making bandsaw boxes and within the turning restrictions they worked well. Tighter turns can be cut in 'bits', but the 1/4" 14tpi from Tuffsaw is excellent. After I moved to a larger bandsaw and several months after that, I stuck to that...

    Bandsaw Video

Thanks. I appreciate its not done to match the wheels. I thought that if a wheel were balanced on the machine, then moving it to another position on the spindle, may cause a problem with imbalance of that wheel. If not, then it does not matter if it's moved to another position. Just thought it...

Using Bandsaw to Square up timber?

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but Chas usually uses a larger blade for cutting blanks. We both have the same Record BS400 bandsaw but the Alex Snodgrass method is only appropriate for smaller blades, which I mainly use. Small blades can get the teeth in the centre of the top wheel. Using Bandsaw to Square up timber?

It's not the case with larger blades. A 3/4" blade would not be run with the teeth in the centre as it would be over the wheel. Smaller blades are what Alex Snodgrass was referring to. Malcolm
