Whilst my lathe will certaily cope with the size and weight of the described piece as above the logistics are monumental. If I was making this it would be a hollow form, and I would consider MDF as a stable and easily workable medium

I would use one for a river table I think the contrast beween heart, sap wood and resin could be quite stunning.

I use Norfolk Saw services - very good service and decent bunch to deal with.

I used to make them on a trend router lathe, wish i had kept it now as it was a unique tool that produced excellent results.

Made a similar set last year from standard building grade softwood, well treated with decking oil and they still look fine.

Sounds a lot of faffage when the bearings, shaft, frame etc may not be up the job. Will the lathe actually handle larger diameter and out of balance blanks? After 20 years of turning I now have a VB36 big green monster, this does tick all my boxes and will handle anything I can hang off it - BUT...

Any waterstone system is way too slow for turning tools, I have a Creusen slow grinder with white wheels and the sorby fingernail jig, been great for the past 20 years. A few seconds then back to the lathe, fast repeatable grinds on all turning tools.
