    Change your energy supplier now!!!

And a note of caution - I got caught by a clever trick.... The calculated price per month usually exceeds your consumption. You are credited in money for your overpayment. So you loan the utility company money and get no interest. You can choose to pay less than the calculated amount per...

Me too, and I bet that someone here could get better shavings off those blades........

    The Newlyweds

Put your coat on love I'm going out. Where are we going? 'We' are not going anywhere, I am going out. Why should I put my coat on? 'Coz I'm turning off the heating.

    Changing water suppliers

IIRC the water companies are responsible for maintaining the coastal quality in their region. The south west has a lot of coast and the cost is shared between a relatively low number of people. If this is correct, then you can take pleasure in knowing that you are paying to maintain the...

    Rage3 Brushes

Update: Replaced the loose bits, used a bit of threadlock on the retaining screw. The saw works perfectly now. I guess those bits were not meant to be rattling around loose. Who'd a thought it hey?

Sure, though I am not sure if I would get many takers.....

    Rage3 Brushes

My blade coasts to a stop in normal operation, but I am sure that the loose bits will not have enhanced its behaviour. Tomorrow I will tighten the bits up, with loctite on the screw and see if it behaves any better. The machine is destined for the scrapheap if I cannot fix it - I am not...

    Rage3 Brushes

Hi all, thanks for the replies and votes.... Had a look at the commutator - looks fine through the brush-holes. But then I noticed some screws on the end-cap. Oh-oh. Takes off end cap and three bits fall out. Two plastic and one magnetic. And a screw. Ok four bits fell out. The screw was...

    Rage3 Brushes

Just had to replace them again - one of them wore very fast. I got an 'aftermarket' pair of brushes. Lots of popping and sparking. It could be that the new brushes are not (as advertised) suitable for this model, or it might be that the commutator (???) that they rub against is damaged. New...

John Lewis - simply the best

+1 When I was young I invented the sport of 'unfishing'. The idea is to use your skill to avoid catching fish. Beginners could leave the hook off the line, intermediates could use a hook but no bait, and experts could use bait, and even place it in parts of the river/lake where there were...

    Fire pit

My attempts at mortar-work have certainly not qualified as an art-form. And 'a dirty hole with rocks around it' does not seem to be on the approved solution list. Still, we have quite a few months to cogitate. I have an old cast-iron cauldron (potje) which could double up as a temporary...

    Fire pit

What a lovely surprise. Did you manage to keep it, even keep using it? A simple fire pit with local stone surround is one of the possible solutions. We have a lot of local stone (iron-stone I think it is called locally).

    Fire pit

Thanks for the replies - lots to think about. I am not overly fond of a *permanent* rusty structure in the garden, and neither am I keen on exploding concrete. I was hoping for an ornamental and useful object, but maybe this was too optimistic. The pondering continues.....

    Fire pit

I am toying with the idea of a 'fire pit' for next years bbq season... perhaps more than just a hole elegant circled with rocks. I think I have seen some in 'stone' (probably cast) - but cannot seem to find an outlet in this country (may not be able to afford one anyway....). Would concrete...

    Should potatoes grow this large?

Try blight resistant varieties - especially for maincrops. Sarpo Mira seems a good choice round here. The Tomatoes were sick with blight, but the sarpo mira were healthy. Next year I will try blight resistant tomatoes if I can find some.

    Should potatoes grow this large?

Looks like a good yield with some fine bakers in there. Sarpo Mira produce a good yield and resist the blight so they can be left in late to make the most of the last bits of sun. I have already ordered mine for next year.

FWIW: I had sketchup working in Ubuntu and Mint - not now due to replacement machine. I do not recall any particular problems.....

A man walks up to a bar in a small village in africa. "The drums keep going" he moans "day and night now for four days. I cant take any more. When will they stop?" "You dont want them to stop" says the barman "believe me". "Why not? They are driving me mad" "Because then the bass** solo...
