What did you do in your workshop today ?

I made a wall rack to hold my bandsaw fence and Mitre fence, so I don't have to hunt for them each time I remove them.

YAWN - Yet Another Workbench Newbie

No, you're thinking of a Narnia. Thats when a bit of your intestines pop out the back of your wardrobe and go on adventures with a talking faun.

    Dacia Duster

I've been led to believe that the primaryvdifference with a 4X4 is it gets you twice as deep into the **** before you get stuck. :)

Marking cabinets in situ for hinge plates?

Yep, I'd just draw it out once on a piece of scrap, holes for new hinge plate, holes for old, pilot bit through the marks, voila - a jig. Use the old screw holes to fix the jig in place, mark or drill the new holes and then proceed to the next one.

    Composite doors

None of tho doors in that video were locked, otherwise the guy wouldn't have been able to open them without a key after reaching through the hole. All of those does have letter plates less than 6 inches from the handle, making it a 5 second job to open any of them without the need to knock a...

Kitchen fitters - any experience with PP worktop edging?

Cheers chippy. I've heard mixed opinions about evostick, so I've ordered some hot melt tape to try. I'll report back my results.

Kitchen fitters - any experience with PP worktop edging?

The tops are Bushboard Omega (M003/Maryland Fonce) with 3mm radius postformed edges. I'm using the PP only on the ends, as it provides a much closer match to the 3mm radius than the normal laminate sheet ends.

Kitchen fitters - any experience with PP worktop edging?

I have some PP edging to attach to the ends of a postformed HPL worktop. This is 2mm thick plastic, presumably polypropylene often used on square edge worktops, not the more common hpl edging. Any experience gluing this? I've glued laminate edging before worth contact cement, but I'm...

Very nice! Offcuts from the latest bass? Where do you get all that gorgeous walnut?

    Finally admitting defeat....

I'm impressed with the one I'm using at the moment, though it has bitten me twice by 'jumping' onto my thumb when starting a cut. It is viscously sharp!

Replacing an interior door jamb. What's the best way?

Ditto. Make a repair piece, scribe around it and chisel a tight rebate for it, just as you would for a hinge. Glue and pin, then once it's dry chop out former hinges. A whole new lining is overkill. Fit new hinges at 6" from top, 10" from bottom and one halfway between.

    Lost and Found

My dad's favourite stabila level was missing for 3 years. Turned up in the guttering above the garage flat roof. Still a good level, but the spirit in the vials is now bleached water clear rather than yellow.

Running power to my shed, but trying to avoid a big trench

If you come up with a solution, keep it to yourself - I dug a trench about three times in heavy clay, as bad weather kept filling it back in! I've got 40mm waste pipe buried in the same trench with a pull string, ready to run some cat 5, CCTV leads and a doorbell/phone extension. Getting under...

    Milling countersunk slot

I would be far more inclined to adjust the hole in the timber than in the hinge. If you're only moving a small distance I favour making the new hole with a bradawl, this will usually push the wood fibres together around the new hole, forcing the old hole shut. This can be done without removing...

    Cheap Trend diamond stones

Another happy customer here - great coarse stove for touching up primary bevels, cuts very quickly, and a steal at £5. Ordered some Air Ace filters too - many thanks for the heads up!

    Wood for Shelves

Mercers and Sons are the best place for spur shelving - cheaper than anyone else I've found and quick to deliver.

    Classical guitar repairs?

The neck angle may have changed under the excess tension of the steel strings, or the top may have distorted so it is too high. If it's the former , this might be a candidate for 'slipping the neck'. Basically you separate the back from the headblock, and a short section of the sides, then...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Thanks XY! It was fiddly work, and I only just had enough rosewood, and barely enough time to get it done. Suprisingly, the names were relatively easy, even though they're composed of about 70 components.

Rosewood & beech end grain chopping board for my brothers wedding present. His bride is Chinese, hence the traditional double happiness symbol. The designs go through like a stick of rock, albeit the names were reversed so they don't read backwards on one face.
