Affordable Quality Alternative To The Festool Plunge Saw

The Titan from Screwfix is a very good buy, currently £89 Inc two 700 lengths of track. I have the Makita, and was very impressed with how the Titan compares. IMO the only area that suffers a little is weight - it is noticeably heavier than the makita. Regardless, I'm tempted to get one...

    WIP - Moxon Cabinet

Looks really good. However, from experience of my own drawers fitted below a bench, I guarantee that you'll want something out of your drawers as soon as you clamp something long in the vice!

    Some bathroom refurb questions ...

If you're redoing the subfloor I'd fit plenty of noggins to driven everything up, then fit thick insulation between the joists. The 6mm insulation board will give you extremely little help, but fitting insulation below the floor will allow you to have thick, effective insulation without raising...

Messed up Plastering :D How do you get to stick to Artex?

My place has very similar looking artex, looks like a native sheet of sweat it you're unwise enough to put gloss or semi gloss on it. I had a water leak from a new boiler installation, and the affected area caused the artex to delamination cleanly from the PB ceiling, so you could try...

    Garage door security

Pacri garage door bolts. Easy to fit, and about as secure as possible, given that the door is basically heavy gauge silver foil! If some one really wants in they'll get in, but pacri bolts will make it more difficult than the next garage door, and they like the low hanging fruit.

    ........

A guy on a Locksmithing forum I use has a story about accompanying his Dad on a job, and parking their work can in a parking lot. Part way through, his Dad sent him to get the van and collect some part of tool from their shop. He walked to the van, drove to the shop, slung the bits into the...

    WIP: a Smoker's bow

Lovely! I was dubious about the contrasting spindles at first, but it looks superb - can't wait to see how it pops with some oil in it.

    Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 Primer

I used it on some alcove shelves and a unit I made from Mrmdf, did a good job sealing the edges, and the final finish was good - top coated in Dulux Satinwood by the client.

    Floating Shelves - Torsion box

I successfully used 9mm mrmdf with 20mm PAR softwood as the mounting battens and front rail between the skins. I covered the front with 3mm MDF, my reasoning being that there world be less visible side face on the top and bottom of the shelf. It worked well, though it was a bit time consuming...

    LOFT STORAGE STILT

I haven't used those, but I boarded a mates loft using these: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Loftleg-175mm-L ... ch=&kword= To create a 10'x8' platform. They fix to the joist with 4 screws, and that leaves a pretty rock solid fixing. Cheaper too!

    F Clamps losing their grip

IIRC I did both sides, on the basis that both sides were serrated originally.

My 2nd proper stab at fitted alcove shelves and a TV unit. My first go was probably the best part of 8 years ago, for a family member, this time was a paying job for one of my better half's co-workers. MR MDF and softwood par/mouldings, client did all the painting.

    F Clamps losing their grip

I've used a hacksaw to deepen the serrations on slippy clamps with good success. It's a boring task, but the clamps no longer slip

    Paintable edging tape

Cheers for the input Chippy, I've ordered a sample so I'll have a play with it and see how it goes.

    Paintable edging tape

I'm making some alcove shelves, torsion box construction using 9mm MR MDF faces and 20mm softwood frame, so the final thickness is 38mm. I'm trying to decide on the best edge treatment, and I'm leaning towards iron on paintable tape. Does anyone know if I can apply it over the MDF/softwood/MDF...
