On the pitted vintage hand tools

Electroylis or Citric acid will convert it to black oxide, then a good wire brish will sort it out.

    The joy Of Citric Acid

I do that as well. I use solar panel to give me a dc voltage, or a converted computer psu. For the Land rover chassis I used a paddling pool and a old arc welder.

    The joy Of Citric Acid

Why do I use Citric Acid. Well, use it cold it will remove the rust, allowing you to crack on with other projects. Hot, it speeds it up and the playpen gets warm. A WAFU glue pot, the inner one was long gone, sad. After soking in Citric acid for a week.

    Royal Navy Bone Saw.

Nice, but odd saw was mine the other day. A lot of rust. It would not even cut Naval Shag. Handle was removed, cleaned up and finished in Clear French polish. The metal was cleaned up with a wire cup brush on a 4 1/2" grinder.

No1 Vice Brought Back To Life

A lump of rust in the shape of a vice, no paint, but a lot of rust. The pictures do not show how bad the rust was. Boiling in Citric acid, this will remove the rust and crud. Rattle can filler primer. Gold leaf to finish.

    Record Vice Saved.

This was attached to a bench, that was going to be burnt, due to wood worm. Tidy, but rusty. The hammering over of the sliders threads stopped me stripping fully down. Rattle can paint, not a true Record match, but it will do. The old split pin was replaced by a Roll Pin...

    Wood Workers Vice Saved

I got this vice the other day as, I quote: "I can not get it to work, mate." It was a small challenge to get to the component parts. Bent threaded part of a slider. Heat and coffee got it true. Boiled in Citric acid had the paint off, rattle can paint. Why blue? Why not...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A bloody mess, a racking unit fell down. So I went for a bit of breakfast, to find there was no bread. so. As I had the mixer out and I knew a friend was coming over I made scones. But you can not live on bread alone.

Two small planes saved and restored.

Oh it is a crack, we made sure of that. Thats why it was TIg up. When we flexed it it was clear.

Two small planes saved and restored.

Sad looking plane, in need of some love. The sole was bad, those marks did leave marks on the wood when used. A visit to a cylinder head surface grinder had it flat and smooth. The old paint and crud was removed by boiling in caustic, then boiled in distilled water. The paint was...
