Stabilising large(ish) rectangular piece of timber

There's a few things which need to be cleared up regarding you're query. Has the timber been air dried for a few years? If not and fresh, then sealing the ends should be done pronto. Are you planning on using the pith, or are you thinking of ripping the pith out and using either quartersawn...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Doesn't make so much sense in your case, unless you had a need. VFD's are worth mentioning though, but more suited for those without the option of having an electrician come round to install a new CU, and/or a digital phase converter. Along with being a Joe Soap regarding elecktrickery myself...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

Sorry, computer say's no, when it comes to fleabay searches. I like the one on the left, and would buy again. I thought it were the more common Huanyang, what's got many parameters (features) For a bandsaw, none really needed... (caveat) though important if wanting to de-rate a 4hp motor down to...

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

@AndyMc Sounds like they talked you into a digital phase converter for that money. A premium VFD brand would be Invertec for instance, likely costing three times the hundred quid ones that I use, under non industrial settings.

Charnwood w740 vs Record power 450?

If concerned about whether a 3hp machine might or might not be possible to run from the household plug, then Bob's induction motor write up is surely worth a read. You'd get smoother starting, and smoother breaking, what's both easily adjustable, if you went the 3 phase with VFD route. Just...

Multiple Tablesaw abutments and design suggestions

Hello folks I've got quite a few things which I'm wanting to sort out with my old Startrite 12" saw, wanting to add quite a few things for various operations. Going to start by making a short fence for ripping on my machine, as in Roy Sutton's video, he mentions setting the distance of the end...

    Startrite Table saw buying advice

I'd like to know if something might become apparent by disassembly, seems I'd need to knock a pin out from the claw, though closer inspection needed. Hoping the crud left on, just might give some visual aid? Perhaps something to do with these fingers? Not finished going through all the...

    Startrite Table saw buying advice

Try as I did, I couldn't find that circlip, so had a rummage through the biscuit tin, and thankfully found three imperial threaded bed bolts. The olite bearing was worn anyway, so gave it a tickle with a file, and made a little stainless sleeve So best to use a magnet (pictured below) at the...

    FTAGH Free to good home

Bet if you'd had a price on it, it would've been snapped up already. Perception is a funny thing! Good Karma to you for trying to help out someone, there's gotta be someone here who would get use out of it. Worth noting spares can be bought from Charnwood, amongst other retailers who sell this...

How to stop a bandsaw wandering?

I wouldn't suggest cutting MDF, especially if troubleshooting, as it could compress the set of the blade. Not that I've tried, so will await what folks have to say on that, but worth noting it's likely at the very least I guess, quite harsh on the set if cutting curves with the stuff.

Why is my Record power bandsaw table big?

I've never heard of Elektra Beckum being refereed to as Meppen, new one to me. You must be in the business a long time! It seems a lot better than I was expecting, on Graham's video short, and got the job done. The "rubber" tires are perished and squishy on me folks one. I have to guess by the...

    Axminster SBW4300 bandsaw

I can't bloomin edit my posts, so folks can complain to the management on that,🙃 but to further derail this old post again, which I hope won't displease folks, but was having a gander at some stuff again relating to the wheels on my machine, and solid wheels are sold as optional on the ACM...

Why is my Record power bandsaw table big?

It does on some, especially seeing as a few smaller machines these days doing away with the splayed legs.

Why is my Record power bandsaw table big?

I'm guessing the OP wishes to get a better understanding of how much space a larger machine would take up.

Opening a Workshop in 2 years - Advice needed.

No hands on experience for ya really compared to many on here, regarding sliders and whatnot, though for bandsaws I see some strange things you wrote. Take your high quality Chinese machines comment, as you're going on branding, which is totally reliant on say Felder or Laguna's reputation from...

    Axminster SBW4300 bandsaw

Apparently Griggio specified solid wheels on the Star /SNA line, well...perhaps that might have been at some point, I may have seen spoked wheels on some, and they seem to throw "star" onto some other machines aswell, if one spots this in the background on one of ACM's promo video, so pure...

    Axminster SBW4300 bandsaw

Not sure if there's a rim either side of the wheel to house the tire, or indeed a groove for a tongue, not trusting the stock photo on say Scott&Sargeant, If not, and it's glued on, then I question why not leave the wheel on.... Why, one might ask, well, should there be some runout from the...
