    Mitre Madness

My brother Dave has no common sense and generally is pretty useless at most things, he is also lazy (rarely gets out of bed before 11). However, he is a doctor of mathematics and a chartered mathematician which has its uses when it comes to angles. Just thought I would throw this resource on...

    Decent 3/4"Mortice chisels

I have been mulling over investing in one clico chisel, but can't decide which size to go for, they are favoured by cabinetmakers  ....well that is what the add says. T

Shed/Garden store WIP - Comp entry

Great progress Colin. Looking very good. Just a couple of questions; How thick did you make your concrete base? and did you put any steel in it? Are the row of bricks round the base just sitting on top of the base? How high is the timber frame work and what height will the building be when...

    Heights and boundaries

Yep, I'm with you. I had similar thoughts for the location of my planned new workshop. The 2.5 metre rule applies when your within 2 metres of the boundary and as you say in most situations location would be as near to the boundary as possible to save valuable garden space. I have found a...

    Heights and boundaries

I seem to remember mention being made that the 4 metre measurement is taken from the highest point within 1 metre of the building, which must be 2 metres from any boundary. Is this a correct interpretation :?: Tony

    Welsh Harp making.

Hello Bryn, Just got back from the valleys myself, few days at Lake V. Excellent as usual. On the subject of Welsh Harp making there was a piece on the telly not long ago about a fella who had made harps all this career and now had a young apprentice. I think it was country file BBC. Wonder...

    Moving heavy machinery, new workshop

All the gardens around, neighbours left and right and behind meet at a point which is the top of a high point over looking the town. I think this is called Bunker Hill. All the gardens are on slopes to varying degrees and access is very poor. The issues I have are the same for all my...

    Moving heavy machinery, new workshop

By way of an update; I telephoned Felder to ask about machinery given that this was the heaviest and more likely I assumed to be able to be reassembled in situ (Given their service / maintenance department). They have seen the pictures and do not see any problem in moving the machinery up to...

    Moving heavy machinery, new workshop

Thanks for the replies fellas, It is true having to position the workshop so far from the house is a bind, not least when working on a projects in doors, or when you need that handy tool. My options are so limited as the whole garden is on a slope apart from a small grassy area which is...

    Moving heavy machinery, new workshop

Steve, your right 25m2 not 5m2 (silly billy - ). I am thinking of building the workshop myself with the help of one or two chums, a carpenter and my mates civils firm for the groundworks base. I also thought that dismantling the machines would be the best idea. The Track-o machine looks very...
