    Sheppach HM2 planer value

Bargain, the planer thicknesser equivalent only HM260 sells for £300+ on ebay. If everything is working ok then a bit of fettling and it'll be singing sweetly.

Hello from a not quite new member

Hello hello. The whole tools thing is a separate endeavour of its own. There are 5 old hand saws on gumtree near me for £10, that I oh so want, but oh so don't need. My current excuse is to renovate then and give them to buddies as manly Xmas gifts. Look forwards to seeing photos of your new...

Wand Makers and Whittlers Help Required

Use some dry wood and tell them it's elder. The Elder Wand, there are some youtube videos on making one by turning.

    Garden Gate.

Old floorboards could be quite dry if they have been indoors for multiple years, I'd give the wood sometime outside to acclimatise before using, and/or leave some decent expansion gaps between boards when making the gate.

    Will my box be rubbish?

Totally agree, crack on. This is what I mean by prototyping. Grab a bit of correct sized wood and bash something out in an hour. Get a feel for which activities are difficult. Practice those activities a bit, then go for your first finished piece, being aware you may need a follow up. Or make...

    Will my box be rubbish?

I think the beauty in the box will be in the finish quality, which I doubt you'll achieve first time, I would be planning to prototype. I made a slightly novel box last year (round) and ended up getting it correct on version 5, I ended up with 2 boxes as 5 and 6 were made at the same time. I am...

    Hardwood edge for workbench top?

Sure the oak floorboards would be fine. For me the most important thing is to make sure it's not going to splinter as your hands will be on it the whole time. I've found in the wrong orientation and with too sharp a corner oak can be like this. A good roundover would solve it

    Cladding suppliers?

The photo you posted in the other thread is a really fine quality cladding. I doubt you’ll get such from a uk sawmill for larch or Doug Fir. I think you’ll need western red cedar or possibly Siberian larch (if available due to sanctions)

    New (old) bandsaw motor

Sounds very odd to me. If it’s a belt drive, drop the belt off and see what you can turn then. Could be the wheel bearings or the motor bearings. May help you take one step forwards.

Shed Build - Vapour Barrier and Insulation Help

The cladding or roof covering is a rain screen. Any thing that gets past is is kept off the building structure by the breathable membrane. The internal OSB or vapour barrier keeps the warm moist air from penetrating into the walls where at some point the temperature is low enough for...

Shed Build - Vapour Barrier and Insulation Help

Cladding - batten - breathable membrane - insulation - vapour barrier - osb. However OSB is so glue filled you can exclude the internal vapour barrier. Roof Onduline (no idea how you would use felt without a solid substrate) battens - roofing breather membrane - osb - air gap - insulation -...

WIP: 6mx3m Pent Workshop build: Exterior Done!

Yup, I have learnt lots during the last 5yrs since I first designed the building. I specifically would not have OSB the outside. Everyday is a school day.

WIP: 6mx3m Pent Workshop build: Exterior Done!

Yes it could. I’d pretty much squared myself away that the risk was small as I only occupy the space for about 10hours each week and work at 13-15degC. I’m now sat here looking at membranes in screwfix so you’ll likely see a tory style u-turn shortly.

WIP: 6mx3m Pent Workshop build: Exterior Done!

Yes, waiting to insulate after I bought 9 pieces of machinery, installed 8ft of shelves, and have two big projects going on was a stoopid idea!

First ceiling insulation going up. Doing full boards by myself is not going to work! I fought it and won this evening, with the help of an impromptu ice hockey stick prop, but not again! Fitz.

    Shed build, many many questions...

I have a few famous last word potentials with my shed. I think you understand the ideal and the trouble providing it, then you make a decision and history will be the judge.

WIP: 6mx3m Pent Workshop build: Exterior Done!

Insulation has always been on the list but languishing below many other things. That was until a bargain came up locally on gumtree, packs of insulation for £10 a piece! Three car journeys later sixteen packs were mine. Where to store them, and do I really need that much! Some in the outhouse...
