Putty and paint advice for sash windows

I know several threads exist on here and have looked at most. I have a specific query regarding the sashes I am currently making and installing. They were glazed using trad putty 2 weeks ago, stored in the house & workshop for painting. I am told by the glazer we can paint after 2 weeks, but the...

    Spindle tooling advice

I am not questioning the advice, which is gratefully recieved, but just asking for some clarification, as all this is new to me.....for tenoning, if I brought this block, I would have to do 2 passes, cut first bottom pass then turn the workpiece over to do the top one.....and it would do a...

As title, as proud new owner of a Hammer F3 I am looking to get some tooling and spend as wisely as possible. I will mostly be using for rebating, gooving, tenoning, and the occasional bit of profiling for sash window bars etc. I have been looking at getting one of these...

Slow Speed Bench Grinders in the UK

Hope you dont mind me kind of hijacking the thread....it is related though ! One thing I never understood is why the grinder wheels rotate towards you ? Surely it should be the other way, in case what you are grinding grabs? All the tool rests I see on grinders seem to angle the tool at a tricky...

    Spindle moulder advice

Thanks, I had seen both of those, what are thoughts on itech? looks a nice clean compact package with all the bits....I do have 3 phase from a convertor, which I could split the supply from, was tempted by the newer itech over the sedgewick, though the latter seems to have a great rep.... If I...

Thoughts on sash window costs & time

Thanks, I think he is happy, I do have some leftover timber and beads ( brought tubes of 15 lengths of each for example, which was £500 for 2 with the already fitted seals, from reddiseals ltd) ) The 7 kilo lead weights were around £24 each, I need them lead for the size ( 38mm wide) . There is...

Thoughts on sash window costs & time

Paint spec for renovated sash windows

I would like to pitch in here, with both my experiences and some questions. I restored, repaired and redecorated all the sash windows in my grade 2 listed house around 4 years ago. I got all the sahes removed and dipped so started from scratch with bare wood. It took about a month to dry them...

    Wadkin PK riving advice please

Its almost impossible to shim the mount for the knife, for a start there is only approx 2 sq inches of surface, the blade is in the way, and no way to hold shims in place - they need to be secure in case the loosen with vibration and hit the blade.....

    Wadkin PK riving advice please

Hi, I have started properly using my Wadkin PK saw which I restored several years ago. Hwever, I notice that the riving knife is not properly aligned with the blade. This is very tricky to adjust, as it simply bolts to a steel bracket. I remember having to get the riving knife made as the saw...
