Currently walking along Basingstoke canal which is lined with many oak, horse chestnut and sweet chestnut. Both chestnut trees have a grey flat/ smoothish bark, the oaks all have bark very much like that in the pictures Just found a hornbeam with similar looking bark

I don't mind mice in themselves, it's the damage they cause that bothers me, everytime we go through a box of stuff in the garage we find chewed items, urine stains and poop. We had rats in the walls at one point, that was a big nope. Luckily the schools pest control contract covers the house...

Agreed, come on guys it doesn't have to take up much of your time if you don't want it to, you can make something, buy something even root through your wood stocks and scrap bins and send a few pieces with a challenge to make something from it all, it's a fun way to make friends and brighten...

That's nice, I like to return something to those who gift me wood. Next time you have some oak with cracks I've found that gold glitter and CA goes beautifully with the gold of the oak.
