    Vice lining?

I have used some chubber (cork rubber mix typically used to make gaskets) but have been disappointed with its longevity. After a few months of use it has perished along the top edges. Perhaps I'm too rough with it, but I've been stripping it off and going back to the wooden jaws.

I found the personalisation of the "Mary Rose" planes interesting. Fascinating to see how people decorated and customised their tools when they built them themselves. I find it interesting how plane designs change from individualised to standardised through the 18th century as plane...

    Garage / workshop floor

Has anyone tried the Halfords floor mats: https://www.halfords.com/tools/garage-equipment/garage-essentials/halfords-6pc-black-floor-mat-set---120cm-x-180cm-336870.html At £8 for 6 panels that looks like a cheap way of flooring a workspace. There's even an alternative that would wake you up...

Thank you @Blister for putting the case for going. I had a great few hours there today. Great things to see. Some tools I'd only seen before in photos, and some I'd not seen before. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the historical exhibits. But by far the best part of my time was chatting to fellow...

    Combined Flu ***

I had both jabs on Saturday. All good - just a pair of sore shoulders.

    And I chose Makita batteries...

Or another consideration - what if it turned out DeWalt batteries lasted longer than Makita ones! Would you be too bothered about buying DeWalt, or Milwalkee batteries for your Makita tool? Personally, I use DeWalt bit holder and Milwalkee bits in my Makita Impact Driver. It would be great to...

    And I chose Makita batteries...

I understand that currently. The generic batteries I've tried have been rubbish. However, imagine if there was a standard tool battery and a specialist battery manufacturer got involved. What if there was a Duracell battery for your Makita. Would you still be so wedded to the Makita batteries?

    And I chose Makita batteries...

Absolutely. And not just desktop printers - It's almost cheaper to buy a new printer than replace the consumables in my laser printer.

    And I chose Makita batteries...

Battery cost logic - If there was a standard for tool batteries, anyone could make those batteries. People would buy batteries on cost rather than being tied into having to buy batteries from a single supplier. That would lead to lower prices. Prices should be lower just because there are more...

    And I chose Makita batteries...

That's a myth! I'd even go so far as to suggest that the tool battery situation is a very good demonstration of how competition can stiffle innovation and continual development - specifically in blocking new entrants to the market (see below) The one outcome of competition is that you end up...

Need a log cut - near Pershore Worcestershire

That sounds sensible to me, but feel free to DM me if you struggle with the bandsaw option.

Need a log cut - near Pershore Worcestershire

I've got a frame saw that could cope with that if you don't mind using some elbow grease: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/saw-and-plane-from-germany.141725/

    Orbital sander

First I must apologies for posting a "this is what I use and therefore it must be a great solution that everyone else should use too" post. For a while my main orbital sander was a Makita DBO180Z 18V battery 125mm disc sander. It worked OK and was far better than any sander I'd used before...

    Standard woodworking glues

To be honest, I'd not heard of Aerolite before this thread. I'll have to get hold of some and give it a go.

corner chisels, how are they used? lathe?

Might be useful clearing the bottom out of mortises.

    Standard woodworking glues

Who uses one glue? One of my lessons learnt is to use different glues for different tasks. I like hide glue for joints and general joinery. I like the way it lubricates the joint before it grips. It's good that it can be undone. And TBH I like the nostalgia of using it. I use PVA for smaller...
