    Small Rug Beater

I must admit to wondering if it was a tool used in weaving. But to beat down the weave, wouldn't the outer tangs be the same width as the main ones.

    Clarity on Record Power

I'd be tempted to give Yandles a call. They may have all three models available for you to look at, and Martock Somerset Isn't a huge distance from Wiltshire. For such an important purchase, I think it would be worth the drive.

    Texas Furniture Maker Show 2024

I really enjoy wortheffort's reviews of Furniture Shows. I find them inspiring. I love the details he highlights, and his enthusiasm for the craft.

    Wanted Chair-making books & tools

IMO @jb94 if you can make a stool of that quality you already have most of the skills needed to make most chairs. And I love that tenon cutter!! My main advice with drawknives remains don't get a new chinese knock off one in the hope of saving money - they are a waste of time. I am not an...

    Wanted Chair-making books & tools

I don't have physical things to offer, but I do have some lessons from my own attempts at chairmaking: I'd go for a scorp over an adze. However, all scorps (or inshaves) are not equal. The cheap ones are useless. I'd highly recommend the Ray Iles scorp and that shouldn't break the bank. It's...

    Small Rug Beater

I had my usual Saturday morning potter around a house clearance shop in town that regularly has some interesting tools ... And spotted a tool I had no idea of what it was. Neither did the store owner. It's quite heavy. I thought at first the metal discs on the sides were magnets, but that...

    The London international woodworking Festival

I should add that Sean Hellman's stall was interesting. Some nice green woodworking tools. His Carver's stock knife looking particularly interesting. The chair-maker selling some very nice tools was The Windsor Workshop. The travishers and scrapers looking very nice. I liked the look of The...

    The London international woodworking Festival

The show was good but smaller than I was expecting. Good to have a chat with Phil of Philly Planes. I bought a mitre plane from him recently and it was good to update him on how I was getting on with it (very well). I had a short chat with David Barron. I like his alternative to a moxon vice. I...

    Can I change a 250 whet for 200 diamond?

I have two CBN wheels on my main grinder. A 180 grit 8" and an 80 grit 6". It works fine. It's the bore size that is important as far as fitting goes.

    First time shellac...

Meths works fine. No worries about there being a blue tinge. I've had no issues using it

Sourcing Birch plywood - the good stuff!

https://plywooduk.com post a lot on Gumtree with offcuts. Based in Stonehouse Glos. I don't know what the quality is like.

spare blade for stanley no 8 plane

Up vote for Hock blades, but also their chip breakers. Use them in the two planes I use the most (3 & 5) and am very pleased with the way the planes now cut. I have a Ray Iles blade in my No. 4 and that is nice too, but I'm planning to put a Hock chip breaker in that too. My No. 8 came with a...

    First time shellac...

I grind my flakes in a cheap electric coffee grinder before mixing with meths. That seems to help the two mix. I've also bought myself a small electric stirrer I'm looking forward to using on my next batch (as well as for mixing milk paint).

    Krenov planes

Interesting thread. I must put building a plane on my future projects list along side the other things I fear I'll never get around to. @Derek Cohen (Perth Oz) thanks for the link to the intheworkshop site. It looks like an interesting site

The story of English furniture, BBC

I remember their was a discussion (I thought on this site but I can't find it now) when the series was aired. I recorded the series and have been working my way though them (when the wife's out :)). I've enjoyed them. I remember watching them when they first aired decades ago. I'm getting old

    Vice lining?

I used spray adhesive - perhaps that's why it didn't work too well for me. I saw a recent video where someone used PVA. I think that's probably a better solution.
