Which woodworking YouTube channels do you watch?

I'll be honest. I don't follow videos that anyone makes or said another way, don't watch em. I'm from an era that read books and good magazines. Watching videos makes me nod off most of the time where the written word doesn't. If they make you happy go for it. Pete

why are reversible routers and bits not a thing?

Yup to a point. That flips the profile so if you flip the part to match you are cutting in the same direction as before the flip and gain nothing. Pete

Bit of a nip this morning

Worked hard for it and made choices/sacrifices. It is above the garage so was cheaper to build because of shared walls and one roof with the house. Upside is I can easily keep it at 17ºC to 19ºC or more as I like because it is well insulated. Harder to add to though if you want bigger. First...

Bit of a nip this morning

You'll trade the ice for dust in a month and have that to deal with instead. Heated garage is the way to go. 😉 Pete

Measured paper pad for drawing plans

Lee Valley have been doing them for a while. The cost to get them sent to Europe would be the rub. Pete

why are reversible routers and bits not a thing?

Since left and right hand milling machine cutters are available one could have a router rewired to turn in the opposite direction, already mentioned (noting there could be an issue with the collet nut coming loose) and use both kind of bits. They are usually simple shapes but custom grinds could...

    architrave

I've had a W&H since 1991 and it is a great machine for moulding. Last year saw a RBI 812 Planer, Moulder on FB Marketplace and jumped on it and got it for $300Cad. Too good a deal to pass up even if I don't really need it. It didn't come with the sanding drum so if you know someone with one I'd...

    Drive Centre - which type?

There is another type of drive you might want to consider. They are called safe drives or ring friction drives. They look like the Steb centre without the teeth or the same as the cup centres used before bearing centres for the tailstock before came along. They have the advantage of slipping if...

    Building a MFT

Nice bench Derek but out of curiosity why didn't you give the top to your buddy to bore all the holes on his CNC in one shot? CNC too small or was the top attached to the base by then? I suppose you have the template for the future when the buddy doesn't have the machine anymore. Pete

Workshop build, wood frame on concrete foundation

I'm not an electrician. We don't have any of the 13,16, 32 breakers/circuits in our systems you do. My 110V circuits in my house and shop are 15A and 20A. The 220V is 15A, 20A, 30A, 40A with the shop/garage having a 100A breaker to the sub from the 200A main. Low demand/use circuits like lights...

Robert Sorby Sovereign Ultima Hollowing System

Never used one but it looks like a variation on the New Zealand based Woodsaver systems that has been around for quite some time. You may want to look into it as it might be a better price, might not. https://www.woodcut-tools.com/store/c4/Hollowing.html Pete

    Heating a insulated workshop

The humidity this morning at -31C was 75%. When that air is warmed to room temperature it is very dry at 3%. Relative humidity calculator Many homes here use humidifiers to add moisture to the dry air. Moisture isn't much of a problem for us. Pete

    Dial calipers

My first calliper was a dial type, 6". I still use it from time to time, never for thicknessing though. They are reliable and you don't need a top of the line version but don't look for the cheapest either. An 8" gets to be too big for normal use and if I wasn't getting a 6" a little 4" fits in...

    Heating a insulated workshop

Cold eh! 🥶 Wonder what that's like?🤣 Since you are not sure of the partition, why not put up a soft one for this year and see how you get along with that area walled off? By now you have seen the insulated tarps placed around buildings, foundations etc while the work in winter continues...

Question. Are the 1/2” plastic pipes wrapped in insulation? I’m assuming you are running hot water through them and wouldn’t be buried bare. Pete
