    Steb centres

According to Sorby it’s to give more security and reduce the risk of splitting. “Its ring of sharp teeth ensure that the Stebcentre bites the wood to give more security and more drive. Because there are several points of contact there is minimal risk of splitting. The Stebcentre can be used...

    Best selling car 2023

From reports I’ve seen the fuel source often has little to do with it. An electrical fault starts the fire then burning plastics and fabrics accelerate the process. This happened to a friends car many years ago. The car was well ablaze before the fuel tank went up.

    Best selling car 2023

Yes they do. Vauxhall had a problem some years ago spontaneously combusting. More recently it’s been BMW Diesel’s. “An NHS doctor has warned other Diesel BMW owners to buy the best fire extinguisher they can after his four-year-old car became the latest BMW to spontaneously burst into flames as...

    Burnishing brush

I’ve been meaning to make one of these for some time but not got round to it yet. The advice I saw somewhere was to use jubilee clips to consolidate the straw whilst it was securely bound with thread. The clips are then removed, the ends trimmed and then soaked in beeswax.

    Best selling car 2023

Worn Thumbs, I read a while ago that Audi are concentrating on ICE cars in Germany and will be having their EV’s made in China. I think VW are doing the same. How much wood in a Tesla Model Y? I would say quite a lot judging by the one I saw in a car park recently. And of course there’s still...

    Best selling car 2023

I’ve seen this reported somewhere that the best selling car in Europe for 2023 is likely to be the Tesla Model Y. It now seems it could be the Worlds best selling car according to this: https://cleantechnica.com/2023/05/18/tesla-model-y-to-be-best-selling-car-in-world-in-2023/ Given the cost...

Tormek 2000 Vs Robert Sorby pro edge

They may last a long time but it still wears. 😉 https://graffdiamond.com/cbn-wheel-replacement-the-red-flag-symptoms/blog.html#:~:text=All%20CBN%20grinding%20wheels%20have,will%20experience%20wear%20and%20tear.

Tormek 2000 Vs Robert Sorby pro edge

Difficult choice. The Pro Edge and other belt grinders are very good for turning tools. For flatwork tools though a wet grinder may be a better choice? The only downside is the water. Early versions of the Tormek had rust problems and I suspect some of the clones still do. Belt grinders do have...

    Aldi Impact Driver

They’ve had these in my local store for a couple of weeks now. At £14 I thought maybe it might come in handy. The charger for it is sold separately at £16. Still tempted except whilst they had a few Drivers left and about 40 or 50 chargers they didn’t have a single battery left! Oh well, maybe...

How to vent a fitted wardrobe

Our built in wardrobes were a nightmare for damp. I ripped them out and bought free standing. A friend had the same problem and he added some insulation but I’m not sure it entirely rectified the problem. Good luck!

    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

This is an interesting article I feel may be relevant to the conversation? https://alanlacer.com/page-4/page-14/ Alan Lacer also wrote another article that has close up pictures of tools straight from the grinder and the roughness of the edge was quite surprising. What I feel has been a...

    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

You don’t need a burr from grinding if you want to use a burnisher. It says in the Veritas instructions to remove it after sharpening. The edge is then honed and the burr is formed by the burnisher.

    Veritas Scraper Burnisher for Turners

Apologies for resurrecting a very old thread but it came up on an internet search. It seems that at least 75% of those that have tried this technique didn’t get any benefit from it. It also seems that the other 25% seem to like it - a lot. One guy in America contacted Veritas due to his lack of...
