A quote from my BBC tablet, I am sure it must belong in joke topics, unless you're the one who has paid 500ķ for a new house... "At first glance, Bassingbourn Fields looks like a textbook modern development, surrounded by countryside. But the residents we've spoken to tell a very different...

    Mortise & Tenon

If you don't have a decent chisel, you need at least one for what is a fairly complex job! It seems therefore unlikely that you have 3/4" in-canel gouge and a slip stone. You have already invested a good deal of time and labour in the job so far, don't risk wasting it. Have you cut the...

    New Build development Bassingbourn

From today's BBC News on my tablet... "At first glance, Bassingbourn Fields looks like a textbook modern development, surrounded by countryside. But the residents we've spoken to tell a very different story. A young woman, who didn’t want to be identified, tells me that within weeks of moving...

Similar to above, but make opening in 'leg' to fit shoulders. My Charles Heywood book shows a wide dovetail on the end of the legs inserted from underneath. (Number mortises and tenons, insert in turn and using a marking knife scribe shoulder joints before setting to with an appropriate chisel.)

An 89 year old man got off a 'plane at Orly Airport and slowly but manfully walked up to the immigration gate where he was asked, abruptly and rather rudely "Passport!" The man replied "Just a moment, I have it here somewhere..." and looked through his blazer pockets one by one. After a...

I think the hypochlorite in bleach is quite fugitive, think Milton's baby bottle steriliser, you actually leave a faint whiff of it the sprogs bottle whereas Jeyes is compounded of aromatic heavy (ish) oils. It does give the paint a a grey/brown tinge. Back in the day it was added it to...
