It now appears that the tape was quite old, i used meths, thinners and white spirit as they were to hand it just spread a thin film so in the end it had to be sanded away but i have noted your suggestions for the future thanks to all.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned play in the quill which the cheaper m/cs have. I hate it so i got a old startrite with no play and i am very happy with it ,so consider good s/h they have greater travel good depth stops and are well made.
I have fixed a template to some oak with double sided tape and when i come to splitting them i cannot get rid of the sticky left behind so far i have used white spirit and thinners .Scraping works but its so slow can anyone help please.
746 watts per HP . Is a 1inch blade the best for ripping wet timber i am thinking it could cause extra friction with the wet saw dust and the need to keep a very straight line

So heat lost is greater than heat gained .I would insulate at least 10 inches total in loft then do the walls as suggested. a temporary fix extra rad/double panel in nursery .
Check the boiler thermostat is turned up towards max make sure the valves on the radiator, there should be two one each end are open.
Heavy curtains with a lining help with heat loss through windows attend to badly fitting windows and doors .
The rads. should get almost to hot to touch if not...
To compleat the picture i have 4.3m of rising/horizontal steel duct with a total of 3.2m flexible duct on each end total lift is 2.0m over all.
Keeping the lift as low as possible should save on HP also the elimination of leaks.

download there cat. and look at URKO f clamps and soft jaws ,there robust and do not slip and the small ones i have do not twist.
I have just installed a work shop stove and fill with saw dust & planer chips mixed ram down just below flue, light then wood off cuts which burn quite quickly but the saw dust burns at a slower rate works well and heats up fast.
