Trying to remember what we were issued with when we were released. I seem to recall the following, with which we could confidently build the new Jerusalem:

1 toolbox, made week 5
5 1/2 Record jack plane
Saws all top class "Saben" brand i.e Sanderson & Kayser "The British Saw":
26" hand saw 6tpi
22" panel saw 10tpi
14" tenon saw 14tpi
3 Marples chisels 1" 3/4" 1/2"
Rabone Combination square
14oz Whitehead claw hammer (replaced twice)
Nail pullers
sliding bevel
double sided oil stone
big screwdriver
smaller ratchet screwdriver (replaced several times)
2 ft boxwood rule
nail punch
brace & bit - one 32mm bit for yale locks.

Was that it then? Have I omitted anything?
Still got them all (and use them often) except the hammer and the ratchet SD.

Maybe was 16oz. No knife, but one bradawl to add to the list.

Yes, and a mullet, acne and lice. How did you guess? Still got the mullet but it's a bit thin in parts.

Yes to Spirit level, Plumb bob.
I revised this list with a few more things I'd forgotten, but I've forgotten where I put the new list.

What, no 40 kajillion grit super-professional Japanese water stone? No Lee Valley whim-whams? What a piker.

Hadn't been invented. Crazy sharpening is a very recent fashion.

Are we really that desperate for an argument that we need to stir a hornet's nest 2 1/2 years old ?

Or have I missed something ?

It's to do with the 'Woodwork Tool Kits' thread on the General Woodworking board. There wasn't really any argument either, until the dig about Japanese water stones. (By the way, the Japs have been using these for centuries; not sure when they became popular in the West, but I can recall them being around in my early wooworking days in the mid 1980s. Lee Valley whim-whams weren't, though, as far as I can recall.)
