I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about E Roberts?
(To VIEW the full list of yards click here)
(To ADD a new yard/s please post here after checking that it is not already in the table.)

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

Are they hobby friendly? I'd imagine so (certainly they're fine with small quantity orders)

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? Self select

Will they deliver? Yes

Are prices displayed at the yard? Haven't seen any displayed prices myself. Usually I just ask

Do they sell domestic hardwoods? Yes, I think so

Do they sell other hardwoods? Yes

Do they sell softwoods? Yes

Do they sell manufactured boards? Yes

Do they sell turning blanks? No

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard? I'd say medium

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?I don't believe so

Do you have any comments? Been going here for a few years and have always found them helpful and competitively priced.

Hope this is of some help

My in laws live just round the corner to them in Enfield Lock. Are you local to the area as well Tony?

Not that near; I'm in East London. Normally I tend to go to Roberts or, more recently, have been to the hardwood offcut guy out in Essex a couple of times

Ok. I’m a Wanstead boy myself originally but lived most of my life in various parts of east London before moving up here.

Made a trip to E Roberts today and they were happy to cross cut a couple of boards for me so I could get them in the back of the car, they have a chop saw seemingly for this purpose.

Pretty friendly to someone turning up to spend £100 as well, happy to move a stack with the forklift so I could look through some boards.

Nothing says "new forum member" louder than a comment on a thread that has been dead for several years :)
Don't worry, quite a lot of newcomers do this.
Please pop over to the "off topic / new members" subforum and introduce yourself to us all.
And welcome aboard ...

That might be helpful information for someone, so thanks and welcome and ignore the naysayers unless they are exercising mod powers which I don't think they are in this instance. Ban for me or whatever if I'm wrong.

Nothing says newbie about adding new information to an existing thread, I think it's a really good thing to do given lots of people find old threads through search engines and they can be the best source of information on something, so adding a little more in the right place is much more beneficial than doing a separate new thread just for the dates sake.

I found it extremely useful, they are near me and have a good reputation for quality timber, I had been avoiding them as they don't cut, but will now go over there
So thank you for reviving this thread

Welcome to the workshop

As I rarely watch the 'I diots Lantern' these days I enjoy reading geriatric threads and see no harm in resurrecting subjects with newer relevant input.

PS Edited, as the Bowdlerising Machine changed the phrase in parenthesis to 'Silly persons Lantern'

I too have used them on a number of occasions and although they will not cut to length for you, they have allowed me to take a saw or Circular saw and plug into their electrics to do it myself and have always found them to be friendly.
