Hi all
I'm looking to produce these for maybe craft stalls in the summer. I think I have the manufacturing process sorted but I'm not certain on what finish to use.

As per the photo I have used Tung Oil on one which has enhanced the colours but I'm not sure about the matt finish and how well it surface would wear. Was thinking of maybe Yacht varnish? Any advice/ideas greatly appreciated.

Liquid Melamine? Need sanding sealer first. Durable, quick to apply.
+1 . A spray coat of sanding sealer and then two coats of Chestnut melamine lacquer. Time is money and all that. Immerse the rattle cans in hot water for a few minutes and use one of those spray handles for cans - assuming you don't have a spray booth.

You don't get a lot of wear on a chess board, it's a fairly gentle game! Well it's supposed to be at any rate.
I think a matt finish would be fine and I'd go for linseed oil for simplicity.
