That's actually a fascinating site. There was a frenzy of patent iron planes after the civil war. Many are in a similar vain. Why it never took hole this side of the pond I don't know. Maybe we're a conservative bunch wood ruled for at least 40/50 years more here.
When seen against the backdrop of other plane developments I thinks Leonard baileys innovations were just a few steps further(maybe better) I guess having stanley muscle you out from your designs is a double edged sword. Financially devastating but historically telling.
