I agree or disagree with that statement.

Well.... That's just your opinion!!!

To answer the OP, I guess persons opinion cannot be wrong as such, it's an opinion after all and not a fact. Some opinions can be a bit iffy though, e.g. if someone says, "In my opinion, Jeremy Clarkson is a really thoughtful, considerate and modest chap", the only thing that validates the statement is the fact it starts with "In my opinion".

I should say that the above is an example only and obviously does not reflect my own opinion

Cheers,
Steve.

Well, it really depends against which baseline you are judging 'wrongness'. Consider the following statement :
"There is a teapot orbiting Saturn"

That opinion is wrong when judged against reality, but when judged against the mind of the person stating it, it is not wrong... As in a great many things in life, it's all relative...

You can't state a fact that is wrong.
but you can state something that you think is fact and claim it so as part of your opinion and be wrong. Rendering the fact an opinion and wrong at that :D

My opinion (right, of course) is often contradicted by the opinion of another. So in my opinion his is wrong.

On the other hand, I've got four fingers and a thumb.

An opinion is neither right or wrong, it is like a scientific theory, it is proven or disproved by comparison to known fact or repeatable experiment.

The other method is, does it still stand after the holder has been repeatedly battered for holding it?

I remember an internet argument many years ago, where someone felt their opinions were not being respected. It was put to him like this:

Of course you have a right to your own opinion, everyone does. What you don't have is a right to have your own fact. You have, in effect, the right to be wrong.

You might want to look up the definition of "scientific theory", and possibly compare it with "scientific hypothesis".

This causes a lot of confusion, especially when Mr Darwin is involved.
