I'm considering buying this beastie from Axi to fit to the bench I'm about to build.
I've looked at the much loved Record 52 1/2 quick release hobbies on the bay and it seems that by the time I've paid shipping costs it's going to cost me either the same or more as the York model. Then I'l have to spend time de-rusting it etc.

I don't really have as much time as I'd like to play with old tools, and really need something that I can unpack, fit and use straight away.
Having said that, if the York Vice is a piece of c**p then I'll hold out for a good old Record one.
If anyone has one and could let me know their opinion I would be grateful.

Cheers

Pete

I have exactly that model. Have 2 major problems so far.

1. The quick release is always active. Sounds good, but if you tighten a workpiece and then want to move it just a little, there's no way to move the front jaw a small amount backwards by turning the handle. To release the vise grip you have to pull it straight out, this is a motion that takes quite some effort and usually the front jaw ends up a few cm from the workpiece. Sounds like a minor problem but I have issues with this very often. Would strongly recommend to buy a model where the quick release can be deactivated.

2. Quick release nut gave up after approx 2 years of usage, £20 to buy a new one.
