I was hoping to get there this afternoon, nice early finish i thought. No such luck, ended up working till 10.30 tonight. Off there in the morning instead.

It was a bit of a damp squib for me. Of course that could have been something to do with the 38 degC fever I had; not the best condition for walking around a wood show.

I specifically wanted to see some Bahco stuff but they didn't show. Then I wante a newmarking knife, but Asley Iles didn't have any. Everything else was out of my league or just not what I need. So I ended up with some cheap Liberon oil, some Abranet sanding sheets and a block (I discovered Classic Hand Tools were charging significantly above what Yandles were).

Had a nice day out with a car full of friends. Didn't end up buying much but had a good look around and hands-on lots of machinery. Sometimes amazing size difference when you actually see and handle things from the impression you get from the adverts.

Bit disappointed in the show "offers" - didn't find any real bargains.

Tried to find Philly to discuss one of his blades that's been rather abused, but not knowing him or which stand he was on, I failed.

Traffic home was dire. :(

I made a brief appearance around lunchtime when, as usual, it seemed to be very busy (couldn't get away from work any earlier). Did see Philly looking very busy on his stand but didn't recognise any other forum members, despite the "millions" (!) of other people hobbling about. The queue for the cafe was huge and only seemed to grow some more by the time I left. Yet, there were still lots of people walking away with bits of nice wood in their hands - I wonder where they all hide?! :)

Didn't really go in with an intention of buying much in particular. I did want to get some of Chestnut's hard wax oil and maybe a tin of their Microcrystalline wax but, they didn't seem to stock the full range in Yandles' shop. It's only after coming online that I've read, in this thread, that Chestnut had their own stand for the day - I must have walked right past it! Must have been near all the spinning lathes, I guess.

As others have said, there was a very nice selection of timber in the shed. In the past, I've sometimes found some of the timber to be over-priced or, as on one occasion, the quality has been terrible. That doesn't seem to apply, this year. As Rob said, they had some very clean American cherry boards. Not to mention the maple, cedar even some of their sycamore was quite nice. Nothing 'spectacular', from what I could see (otherwise, I may have opened my wallet, but still). It's a shame they only ever seem to stock steamed pear in such large sections (3in, I think?), as it becomes quite expensive. Anyway, I have enough offcuts in my own workshop to work through before I start buying more wood - that's my excuse!

One thing I forgot to look for was the selection of veneered MDF sheets they now stock, as according to their website. Did anyone find them?

Sorry, I must have bought the last 1litre tin of Chestnut Hard Wax Oil from Yandles on offer at £16.65, normally £18.95, every little helps.

Chestnut were in the big barn where CHT used to be a couple of years back.

Terry was doing a roaring trade.

Rod

I managed to spend £16.
Couple of things I had in mind i didnt get, Rob the Hitachi man tells me the sander i wanted is out of stock till October.
Just about every trend Craft cutter in the cabinets other than the one i wanted...

Came out with a tin of stain, a couple of Round Tuits, a bottle of glue, and a bag of tiny wooden pegs.

They reside in the shed leading off from the shop, laying flat in wall racks, taking over some of the space previously used for turning and carving blanks.

I missed the show this year, I have got some scaffolding up and waited in for the builder that did not show up until 2pm and then we considered the weather and put off completion until perhaps Wednesday.

Also the cash base has been hit.

...and I had most of the best ones  Seriously, if you're after timber, then the best day is Friday...early  - Rob
