Xcalibur arbor extension

Dear all,

I've just taken delivery of an Xcalibur 10" Cabinet saw - very impressed with it. I've also ordered an arbor extension but I'm not clear how to fit the thing when it arrives. Do I unscrew the nut on the arbor which has an Allen Key fitting and do I unscrew clockwise or anti-clockwise -

Welcome Jeff,

The nut has a left hand thread which is removed by turning clockwise.

The arbour flange is then held with the two pins on the spanner and a 10mm a/f allen key is fitted into the socket on the end of the arbour. I then use a length of iron water pipe of the long arm of the allen key to unscrew the extension which also has a left hand thread, so turn this clockwise.
When refitting either arbour extension, make sure both male and female tapers are scrupulously clean to maintain concentricity.

PS Make sure that your Allen key is properly inserted. I've rounded arbor socket over a bit, presumably by being careless. It's not unoperable, but it's not as snug as I would like.

Thanks for your replies. I could not make out whether the Allen key nut was separate from the arbor extension or part of it. In fact the instruction book (now I've looked at it properly) shows its part of the extension. I'll hopefuly be able to give it a go today

Arbor now removed, braced the locking spanner against a trunnion and attached car jack handle to allen key and out it came. Have now powered up the saw after scouring Chelmsford for 2.5 mm flexible cable and started setting up the saw - arbor run-out checked at just under 0.002" which seems OK to me
