Now that looks like a seriously heavy benchtop!

I read your piece about 'my kingdom for a file' with great interest and thought you might like to know that rasps can apparently be sharpened by dipping them in acid. The acid eats away at the larger areas more quickly for some reason, possibly that the teeth get hardened more than the body. You can use a weak acid over a longer time for better safety and control, or something like battery acid for a couple of minutes with a neutralising dip.

I can't remember where I read about this method and I'm not sure whether it works on files or not.

Anyone tried it?

Toolemera is coming on a treat by the way Gary.

Yup, acid dip is the way to go. Commercial file restorers use this method. How and why it works is up to the metal crowd! I have a personal and great respect for acids, such that I'ld just as soon send the tool out to be dipped.

More file stuff on it's way in due time.

Best
Gary
