That's a very sturdy looking 'bench. Did you build it yourself? Do you encounter any problems when you want to plane something in your front vice, because the left-hand end is so close to the wall with your sash cramps?

I built the bench 19yrs ago when I was an apprentice, it was the first piece I ever made. It's all hand made, the laminated top was quite challenging. No I have never had a problem planing anything on the front vice. Pic not very clear, It's about 3ft away. When ever I'm shooting long boards I place in right side of vice and support on right hand bench leg with 1" dowel's. Have hand shot 12ft boards this way. :)

Nice workbench, six legs, that must be firm. I particularly like the back board but alas not suitable for me because I like my north facing window behind my bench.

Indeed, thanks for posting mtr. I keep looking for these threads to take back board ideas, as I have just built my first proper shed. It's got a little area for a future workbench, and using the wall seems like the best option for storing certain tools.

I must admit I have never really thought about it before. My old foreman did his this way and I just copied him, we did alot of price work then and this way was faster for us.

Very solid looking workbench. I still have the one i made during my apprenticeship too. I'll soon be building a new one though. I see you keep bee's as well. thanks for sharing.

The top is 90mm thick and is laminated from kerring reclaimed from bridge planks, there is treaded rod's every 150mm+glue. it weighs in at 15st and stays flat(never had to true it up), it has bread board ends with beech facing strip dovetailed and screwed on. Bee's yes three hives.

OK - I'll ask the question. Which item in the picture reveals that you keep bees?

Really solid bench BTW!

Ah! I've just spotted something. Is that one of those smoker things up on the left?

You got it evergreen.

I'm not to good on text speak(only got computer last month)whats BTW.

ps
C'mon guys where are your pic's of your bench's.

Good looking bench...poor positioning  Placing the bench into the corner means that you can only work on it from one side. If the workshop set up allows, move it to a place where you can, if needed, work from both sides of the vice - Rob

I wish Could move it into the centre so i could work all round, space would'nt allow  having said that i've pretty much built most items of furniture with bench in that position. However you can't see on the pic but in front of bench is a 7 by 2 gluing bench, and this arrangment works for me :D
