Yeah b&q should do that if you have one in or close to dorset that has the facilities? Or ring round some local builders merchants, quite a few now have the panel saw to cut sheet goods. Failing that a local joinery shop? Pop in and ask if they have a sheet of mdf you can buy from them and ask them to cut it to size. :)
 
Ah yes , quite sure that e local one which is quite big can do that :). So now onto the vice.... :D. It should be secure with 36mm of mdf?

Sounds like the mdf is sorted then. If you have a builders/timber merchant close by? pop in there for the timber, it will be roughly half the price of b&q.

Yes 36mm mdf will be fine. Don't forget it will be bolted through not screwed, so will be very secure :)
 
If you're worried about the vice moving, glue a piece (or two) of ply underneath the mdf - even if it's not much larger than footprint of the vice, it'll still stiffen everything.
