If anyone is iffing and butting about the Sorby kit, it's very easy to knock up a base to suit, it just needs a bit of steel bar and some scrap wood or ply.

Thank you Phil, that’s great advice. I have the Sorby 446 platform but I need to keep that for chisels and plane irons but I could make a ply template of the bottom section that holds the steel rod if that’d help.
