Has anyone seen one of these Incra Hinge Crafter
jfc_hingecrafter.jpg

or similar for sale in the UK, have done a search and all I have found is Woodpecker and Rockler in the States sell it but was hoping to find it for sale in the UK.

Hi Martin,

Speak to Roger at Wood Workers Workshop.

If you search for wooden hinges there are some tutorials on the net showing how to make them without the use of jigs.

Paul

Thanks Paul, I know Roger could get them but was wanting another price to compare, might have to phone Roger though, in the meantime will search for the tutorials.

Why dont you make them by hand yourself, after all basically they are only box joints

I will make them myself, this is just a jig for drilling the holes for four different sized hinges, if I had an engineering shop I would attempt to make the jig, unless anyone knows a different way to drill the holes :(

Martin
I use a lip and spur drill as they track far better in wood than a normal twist drill which will wander about all over the place. Make sure the wood is parallel and square. I then clamp it to the side of my drill vice which is perpendicular to the drill spindle and drill the holes.
A good thing to remember is to mark the centre on both sides of the wood that way you know if it has wandered off centre. Not that it matters too much as there are ways around it.

Hope this helps

It all makes sense Bean, It's a little difficult as I don't have a drill press yet nor a vice but I do like the idea of this jig, it will allow me to do an accurate job with a pistol drill and a load of broken bits

Just giving this a bump.

I can't believe that nobody has any info on where to buy this or anything similar.

Anybody got one for sale.

Anybody got a better idea.

So why consider buying a jig to do this one task, rather than a pillar drill that will do this AND a whole bunch of other things besides? - not a criticism, just curious about your logic.

Why not try making a jig by epoxying a piece of hollow tube to something to act as a reference for alignment of the drill bit - something along the lines of a pocket-hole jig - no need for the drill press then?
