Does anyone know of a good woodshop/woodyard in or around Herefordshire (or failing that within 100 miles of!)
where I can get blanks, boards, logs, finishes etc.

I was watching the DVD that came with the (excellent) Robert Sorby chisel set and was green with envy at the shop featured on there.
Endless shelves of blanks, logs and boards....

Buying over t'internet is fine but, the postage is horrendous and I'd dearly love to have a poke around in a decent shop.
So far all the ones I've found seem to be in and around London or Scotland.

The last time I went to Tilgear, they were in the middle of organising the shop.
Most of the space that held all of the wonder things on display that I used to drool over is now dedicated to storage. :x
When I asked about the changes they said that most of their business was mail order and they needed more storage space, hence the changes.

Have you visited Ockenden Timbers?

I have used them and found them very accommodating.

Details in list in my signature.

Interesting that the two places mentioned so far are in Bedfordshire or HerTfordshire. Not that near HerEfordshire!
But I guess calling Herefordshire <Central> England is a bit confusing - it was my original home, and always felt well away from the centre of things :D

Are you sure? I thought they were near Churchstoke, which in old money was Montgomeryshire. :D Now absorbed into the monstrous Powys, but according to something I read recently, the best place in the UK to live.
(and, yes, I did notice your post, Chas, but was focused on the earlier one :) )

I stand corrected, drowning my sorrows whilst watching the pathetic performance of The Tigers this afternoon has done nothing for my sense of geography.
Not far out though

Thanks all.

Ockenden timber looks brilliant - I shall hike off out there one Thursday or Sunday.

Salivating at the prospect of all that wood...
