Wood ID please

I have one of these, didn't know what it was until I went to Spain on a walking holiday. If I remember correctly, it is the root of the Tree Heather - Erica lusitanica. Great things, but beware - mine has a large stone incorporated in it - grown round it.
Don't grow here - native to Iberia - hence the latin name.

you never actually said it came off the beach just it had a finish like drift wood . did you get it from the beach :?: if so crikey it could come from anywhere in the world reminds me of the tree roots you see in the everglades in Florida ( mango ) i see you have now used some of it, was there any scent like distinctive smell whilst you worked it :?: lovely colours coming from it . keep posting the pics as you use it . hc
 
Thanks to Nick we have a postive ID.
It is still Pig wood to my lad though.
I don't know where they came from HC, I inherited them.
When I get round to working some more I will bump this post back up.
