It's narrower than the plane blade! What a crock!

That's not a problem - if it were, sharpening a drawknife would need a remarkable stone!

Just move the blade side-to-side, so (in total) the whole blade get sharpened.

Some old timers prefer narrower stones, since this side-to-side technique prevents any tendency to hollowness in width - a great evil.

Some large wooden jointers had 2 3/4" blades - stones were never THAT big...

Is a blade that big cambered, and whats the bedding angle? It must be really difficult to push!

I'm not sure I get it?

Do you mean across the length of the stone? If so, the guide will have nothing to run on.
