Like I said Jake, even they can somethings right, but I ran up against them whilst I was self employed, and their bullying tactics went on for 7 months before I forced to back down.
I don't like bullys, whether official or unofficial.

Health and safety executive tries to ensure companies implement safety regulations and uphold the law so that other people keep their fingers (and lives). They only have to use bully tactics against unsafe workers or bosses.
Would you have lost a finger if all equipment and practices in the place you worked complied with H&S rules? The fact that you got compensation indicates that the company was at fault in some way (unsafe practices/equipment)

The answer is that in those days directly struck micro switches were legal as guard safety switches, this one failed into the on position, and no law was broken. My compensation was from HMG not the company.
The example I posted showed the bully boy tactics I dislike.
Years later I was threatened with prosecution for fitting 13Amp plugs with no L&N shields.
I challenged them on the fact that they were kite marked and eventually they backed down, but not until they had exhausted their full repetoire of threats.
Including the dishonest fact that appeal, against their decisions are heard by the HSE. They are Judge, jury, and executioner.
