I was recently looking at the Axminster tools spindle moulder window tooling kits, but struggled to understand how they could cost ~ £3500, especially considering you don't get the spindle moulder machine included in the price.

I just want to know whether there are any other companies who do specialist kits that are slightly better priced ?

Thanks

you are getting 14 different cutterheads for your 3500k.
that makes each head £250 each. some of them are large (tenon discs) and some have complex profile knives.
At 3500k they are very reasoably priced.

I suppose given the number of cutters and the ease with which you can mass produce windows then it is not too bad.

I am looking at making sliding sash windows

Looks good, but Jason, where did you get the price from?
4 807.84 £
at the bottom of that page.

Looked at the previous page, think the dodgy spacing through me off and I didn't take the "4" into account

That is a bit pricy.

that's 4 807.84 € which is £4,293.85 A baaargooon

1.12 € to £.....I would love to get that as my exchange rate at the moment. more likely 1.09 so that would make it £4410
Plus the bit for Mr Darling at 17.5% makes it £5182....now that is bargain!

If you're making traditional sliding sash windows you don't need all that stuff
You just need to be able to mortise, tenon, mould, rebate and scribe. Oh and groove. For the parting bead.
Having said that it's bloody complicated. I've just dug out an illustrated set of instructions I wrote in 1987 when we were making a lot of these in Cheltenham, where here were a lot of 19c houses needing new ones.
Would anyone be interested in a PDF if I can be arsed to scan it?

I'd love a copy. Hoping to get round to repairing/replacing a few of our windows, if it ever stops raining again..

And another big yes please!!!

I have a set I want to make this summer for myself. Any help and guidance much apreciated.

Cheers
Graeme
