I have used them for years for bits on sash windows service is spot on. Lead weights cost a bit to post - best if you can collect.

If it's just the sill thats rotten it can probably be cut out and replaced while leaving the rest of the frame in situ.

Have you actually tried that Manny? I've seen articles on it but does it give decent results? Part of the frame stile is also spongy unfortunately.
