Ordered up some iroko the other day through a mate who has a trade account with a local timber merchant.
I wanted to end up with 50m of 2x1 sawn. I was happy to rip to width so gave them the choice of what to send.

They sent 12" x 1" boards. It seems such shame to cut them up.

Just my luck! - another time if I wanted wide boards they would probably charge extra for them.

Just tell yourself that if you were to use them as they were they'd cup and bow whilst you feed them through the saw.

If they are just straight grained boards then it's no great loss. Some of the Corby Iroko ended up being 250mm wide. I've save those boards, for what I'm unsure.

I did not really have a good look at the boards. It was persisting with rain and at 4m long I would have to leave a metre or so hanging out of the car. It is only a mile or so from home but they would get quite wet.

I'll collect them another day.

My Corby table tops turned out to yield 100 to 125mm once I had cut the tongues off. A lot of it had some wild grain as well. There is still quite a lot left in stick waiting inspiration - maybe a benchtop one day.

I still have about 15 boards in stick. I might have to sell them :( But I'm hoping recent developments will at least delay the chances of that.

It's just a shame it's Iroko, I'm not a fan of either working with it or looking at it :D Saying that, the accent strips I used on my daughter's step stool look really good.

I'd take another 4 wizer. Maybe not right now but I would if you want to sell them. Makes a great worktop with some work.

Damn good stuff for a workbench top. The 'sneeze-wood' effect never seems to bother me. But yes I do wear a mask these days!

I must find out where this Corby supplier is! It's not so far from Brum!

The latest thing I heard about Corby was that they were no longer offering the benchtops. The website http://www.educationforall.com/ is still functioning but the contact is no longer Sarah Hill who we dealt with originally.

No they didn't last all that long I heard. Doesn't mean they won't have more in at some point, they get the stuff from schools refurbishing. I also got 2 Record 53 vices.

One day I'm going to regret not getting more. They were so cheap!

It doesn't appear to effect me too much. The fact that it's a bit stinky and very dusty is what I don't like. Plus it's unkind to blades!

Chems, will keep you in minf it it goes up for sale. I'll be wanting £20 a board :D

lol, hope they are ok after been left outside. You could make a few nice kitchen worktops with all those and make some good money.

They are covered with tarp in stick and the last couple I pulled out were fine.

I had Martin and Mark to do the heavy lifting at Corby :D, but I had to unload on my own. Sometimes needs must.

My kitchen, utility room worktop and built in office desk are all made from those tops, plus the 60mm square beech legs and frames. A reasonable bit of work but the wood cost me £60 total!
