Which small sliding mitre saw?

i want to be able to cut fret slots in a guitar fret board.

I've found a suitable180mm 0.5 kerf blade and want to cut max 4mm depth and 100mm long cuts.

Need a adjustable depth stop on it also.
I currently have a 1600 watt Bosch GCm 8 sjl mitre saw but it's a bit big and sticks out to much into my workshop, but like it's accuracy.
I see they do another version with a smaller motor, but not sure if it's smaller?

Hi there, I’ve read this post a few times and I can’t help thinking that ( I have no experience of making instruments) a manual saw might be better for what sounds like fine and delicate work . Maybe a picture frame mitre saw would be better for your needs.

You do not tell us of the bore of the saw. Have you confirmed it matches common bores?

It is not clear to me if the clamping washers on a standard saw would close to 0.5mm thickness.

It is also not clear to me whether the blade would be rigid using standard clamping flanges.

For instance, Klingspor supply a set of oversize flanges for use when using a 225mm diameter 1mm thick slitting disk in a 9" grinder.

It would be helpful if you linked to the blade you have found.

I was under the impression that fretboards were curved, so if you cut a constant depth slot when the board is flat, the the depth will vary when you sand the curve into it. If you cut the slots after the board is curved, how will you follow the curve to ensure constant depth?

Hi thanks you can buy fret slotting mitre jigs that use a template to ensure the frets are in the correct positions which come with a 0.6mm kerf saw but I wanted something mechanical and saw the 180mm blades. The kerf is 0. 6mm but the actual blade a 30mm bore is just the normal 2-3mm thickness so no problems fitting into a standard mitre saw.
Most people just cut a slightly deeper slot to allow for the curvature of the fret board, only cnc users cut a slot to match. Its not critical...I may buy one of the blades and try it in my Bosch mitre saw.
.Changing a blade was a 3 min job in the Bosch so no hardship
